Mean Streak

Is Mean Streak really have brakes at the top of the first hill? Where is the best place to sit on Mean Streak? You probley want to know why i'm asking so many questions. Well, me and my dad are going to Cedar Point in July, 7and 8th. we are planning to ride Mean streak first is this a good thing to do?

Twister II is a wood coaster in Denver Colorado the best one on the world. X2 is the best movie of the summer.
I'm pretty sure there are breaks at the top of MS. As for the best place to sit, you have to figure that out for yourself. I'm a back seat person myself.

Yes there are brakes halfway down the first hill which is pretty dumb but there must be a reason sor it and the best place to sit is the back, but some people dont think so.

I'm not going to mess with you. Anyone that can ride Mean Streak in the back seat is tougher than me. LOL

For us old guys ...I would suggest the front seat, and keep your back from touching the seat. Your Dad will thank you.

Yes, there is a reason for it, and a very idiotic reason. It is the result of poor design. The first few years, Mean Streak did not have trims, but after 3 years(I think), the supports at the bottom of the first hill were having to be replaced. In order to cut down on the number of supports needing to be replaced each year, the park installed trim brakes on the first hill to reduce the pressure on the supports.

Sitting in the back seat, or at least the car, will result in feeling the least amount of effect from the trim brake on the first drop. You will still notice it, but because you are picking up so much speed so quickly, it's less of a nuisance than it would be if you were sitting in towards the front of the train.

the brakes are definitely there, and i remember it freaked me out the first time i felt them...so be prepared!

Ok,why do trim brakes have to be blamed for ruining a wooden coaster?? i know of one that I love that has trims all the way down the first hill, and the design and length of it more than makes up for it,it still edges out shivering timbers to me in all aspects other than airtime.

I believe Meanstreak just has a lack of elements and a couple design flaws maybe.

Everyone can tell what woody i was refering to ,I bet the next poster can guess even. :)

I don't recommend riding it first. IMO

Someone not having ridden this before might think that 420 is kidding, but you couldn't be more wrong. Do not let your back rest against the back of the seat during the entire ride and the whole experience will be much more tolerable than painful.

The MS is kind of bumpy! So riding it later in the day may be a good idea! Heck ride it any time as the line is usually short!

Erie: The only great lake you can walk from end to end and only get oil on your shoes!

After horror stories and bad timing kept me from taking my first ride on Mean Streak until Coaster Mania I had to laugh when we got up to the station to see folks lining up for ANYTHING but the back seat.

I figured, what the heck. Rode in the back and while it's rough I've actually been roughed up more by Phoenix (Knoebel's), Wildcat (Lake Compounce) and Blue Streak (Conneaut Lake).

It wasn't a bad ride at all, to me. I think it suffers from the same problem as Millennium Force (great start, great first drop, then yawning the rest of the way back to the station) but I walked away from a back seat ride unbruised.

For me the roughness on meanstreak isn't the bad thing,it's just so slow.
I think Mean Streak is a great ride. The only bad part that I found about it was that it was so rough. The only rougher ride I have been on is Ninja (Six Flags St. Louis). Otherwise, I loved it!

Thats like saying TTD is kinda tall and fast!!! seriously, if you have a queasy stomach, or if you don't like getting beat up by a ride, i wouldn't suggest it. But if thats ok with you then you'll be ok, but if you are a masochist, you'll love it.

I'll ride Mean Streak in the back seat so long as I don't have to wait long for it...the ride isn't worth a wait. But the trick is, NEVER TOUCH THE SEAT BACK. That foam stuff is about as soft as concrete. Luckily the bottom cushion is still OK, so it is possible to ride the ride without getting too badly beaten up.

I can't help but wonder if the park could let the ride run a little faster if they'd put soft seat cushions on the darned thing.

I wouldn't ride it first thing, but if you do as suggested, lean forward to keep your back off the seatback, and relax your body, you'll enjoy the ride much more.

Personally, I prefer to sit somewhere in the middle.

Have any of you been on The Beast at PKI? You say MS is rough. Mabey it was just me but when I went on The Beast it hurt so bad. It gave me a huge migrane (sp?) and my sides hurt really bad for the rest of the day. I couldn't ride any more coasters for the rest of the day. Did anyone else have this experience or was it just me?

The Ninja is A LOT smoother than MS. Its steel! I rode it twice yesterday, up front and in back, and it wasn't rough. (It's a Vekoma looper for those who didn't know)
