It's my guess that Millennium Flyer trains ride on a standard gauge. It wouldn't make sense to expect a wanting customer to regauge their coaster for new rolling stock.
Wildcat at Hersheypark and Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa both ran PTC trains originally. They eventually switched out the trains for Millennium Flyers. Retracking was performed, but I don't think the gauge changed. I'm fairly certain the gauge is the same. Up until this year, the only rides that had swapped out the PTC's for MF's were built by GCI. I believe Ghost Rider is the first coaster originally built by someone other than GCI to receive MF trains. The only GCI coaster left still running PTC trains is Roar at Six Flags America.

Well, Dollywood has had all sorts of trouble with Lightning Rod. Rumors are that the launch started smoking a few days back.
That ended up being a drive motor that was smoking. Not a big deal but definitely not needed with all that's been gong on with that ride. Lol

Don't forget, wood coaster cars are not exactly a commodity item these days. Every new wood coaster car is custom built. Any differences in gauge or construction could certainly be addressed.
For example, the Hersheypark Comet and the Kennywood Racer both have received new PTC trains in the last decade or so. But they are not compatible with each other, because the track designs are different.

there is zero proof anything is happening to the ride
Nothing has been announced by the park. So we don't know what or when. But, something is happening. To believe otherwise seems a bit naive to me.

I had the opportunity to ride Storm Chaser today. If RMC turned Mean Streak into anything like that ride I would be estatic. I could see many people ranking it as CP's best coaster. For me it would definitely be a top 5 ride at the park.
2018- Raptor
CP Top 5- 1)MF 2) Maverick 3) Gatekeeper 4) Top Thrill Dragster 5) Raptor
Except that doesn't explain why so many of the footers have been marked and why site surveyors were on site taking measurements. And if you want to say the park is just messing with us, they could have accomplished that without doing nearly as much. All that being said, if the original information provided is accurate, we should know more in a couple weeks.

When Disaster Transport was closed back in 2012, they did so at the end of July, similar to the rumored time for Mean Streak being closed this year. However, they announced its closing July 13. Which is today. So, it stands to reason that if they are indeed closing MS at the end of the month, they should be announcing that any day now. If they haven't announced its closing by the end of this week, I'm going to guess that it's unlikely to be closing at the end of the month after all.
Personally, as much as I'm anxious to see RMC Streak happen, I'm starting to think it's not going to happen until 2018, with the Soak City expansion being next year's main addition. If we get that announcement of MS closing in the next few days, I will be pleasantly surprised! But I'm certainly not expecting it, at this point...
