My husband, a non-CP addict, clued me in Friday night that he changed his schedule on Sunday so we could go to Opening Day. BIG THRILL. I clued him in that we had better go Saturday so we could process our season passes. I knew the season would start off on the wrong foot if we had to process in on Sunday morning.
We headed out Saturday for the 3½ hour trip. At about 7:30pm we headed out the causeway with screams of glee by my two sons (ages 4 & 7) and I. We had a very short season pass line. I could SO relate to the Mom in the season pass line who was CRYING because her youngest child was 48". It's good for my husband to see the other CP/coaster fans!!
It was just wonderful to see the rides going again, even if it was for a private event. (I always knew those baskets were over-priced!)
For the first time we stayed at the Clarion by the Sandusky Mall. (On-site rooms were sold out.) It had an indoor pool and the kids were thrilled. It was clean and not over-priced. Will remember that for another day.
Sunday morning my 7-year old and I head into the park at 9:15am – the Joe Cool thing would be worth it if we never used it again. The lines at the entrance gate were long. The season pass line was unbelievably long as well – I was SO thankful we were not in that line. You know how slow they go!! Anyway, we head to MF since my 7-year old is not tall enough for WT. We had some great rides with little to no lines. Awesome. On the second trip my son had his hands in the air the entire time. I’m so thrilled he’s a Coaster Hound!
We had a great day and hit all the coasters a 48” kid can ride. (All but Mantis, Raptor, PT, and WT.) Here are some quick, unusual observations:
* Even though this has been stated in other posts, it deserves another mention. The Blue Streak is awesomely fast, with lots of air time. We were in the back seat and at the end, my son said, “WOW! They changed more than the paint!” Yes they did. It is great.
* My poor 4-year old had been talking about 2 things – Ocean Motion and Snoopy Bounce. (I don’t want him to grow up quickly, but I can’t wait ‘til he hits 48”!!) The new Snoopy Bounce is not right. You can’t really bounce. My son typically does flips in these things, and he couldn’t get enough bounce for that. He was bummed. One less “ride” for him.
* The kiddie dodgem cars have new metallic paint.
* The hand dryers in the bathrooms by the Main Gate are major turbo dryers. How funny.
* The antibacterial stations outside the bathrooms are gone.
* The pop machines are $3 – weren’t they $2 last year?
* Saw lots more security walking around.
* I was surprised at how empty the park was until 1:00pm or so. I thought it would be much more crowded all day.
* I got in line for the only WT ride at about 1:30. An hour wait was listed as the wait time, took more like 45 minutes. That time flew by. Watching that incredible ride is even fun! I love the “3-2-1…” then lots of screams. CP has outdone itself again with this one.
To make my husband (and 4 year old) happy we left the park at 5:00ish. Some trip I would like to meet some GTTPers. I’m quite sure I saw Magnum Dan (way ahead of me) in line for WT. We’ve seen the CP Discovery Channel show so many times…
I’m ready to go back. The next scheduled trip is in June. That is too far away.
YEA, the off-season is OVER!
