I believe Intamin makes towers like this now. They might not tilt you parallel with the ground, but they do tilt towards terra firma.

I believe this is their tilting drop tower.

Not to get off topic, but I think falling backwards would be more of a thrill. You never know when you are about to stop, or if it's a really crappy ride, the ground.

Yeah they still do it. I actually noticed just the last time how much airtime you get going backwards.
