Maverick - 05-29-07 (Evening and night rides)

Went solo to CP last night to finally see what this new ride was like. Chose a good night to do so, wait time for Maverick was about 15-20 minutes, line was just in the WWL building. I rode 4 times, onto the ride.

One of the best first drops I have been on. I was expecting my first ride to get thrown into the harness going that steep that quick, I never did, it is not a drop you fear but anticipate and wish would last longer. Second best part I like is the tunnel and the second launch, you are hauling in there and I like the turn to the left before you actually exit the tunnel.

The airtime is awesome on this ride, you get ejector and floating, not to forget it seems this ride really has no let up in it. One thing surprised me in which I like alot more then I expected. That is the two hills on the second half of the ride in which you almost go inverted. First is after the S curve in the lagoon, when you pass the tunnel you quickly almost roll over on your right side. What makes is so good is you are hauling through it. It's almost like the last turn on MF, and on Millennium Island but much better because the transition is so quick.

Night rides, there is nothing like going 95 degrees past vertical in the dark, again I want the hill to last another couple hundred feet, it is so good. I also like how you slow down at the top of the lift, it makes you think the drop will be nothing. You can get some headbanging but it is minimal. You can't see were you are going at night, it's sudden transitions. If I had to choose I think I like the second half a bit better then the first, because you are moving so fast, with great air and alot of intensity. At night the strobes and lights in the tunnel are nice at the end, then you turn left and see darkness and the ground below you. Basically you go from a dark tunnel to darkness outside, and I like it.

This ride is a perfect example of what you can get with just a 105' vertical hill. With only 4 rides if I had to choose what Intamin ride I would ride at CP, I think Maverick would take the top. It has made the back of the park very important now. Going as fast as you are when you dive down into the lagoon where the S curve is now at, I don't know how you could handle the heartline roll. In a way I think the S curve is better because it matches the quick transitions throughout the rest of the ride.

I'm going to need more rides to get a better handle on it, but to me it is a ride that goes to the top of your list right away. I think it could be the best first drop at CP.

Going tonight. Hope the lines are 15-20 minutes. That would rock.

Are the lights back on in the tunnel? The mist?

The lights were always on. It's the mist that was turned off.

Yeah, all the lights are on. At the start is the lantern like lights, then toward the end if I remember right, there are horizontal white strobe lights that flash and pulse....or something like that. I didn't have any mist in the tunnel.

Thank you for describing how it rides at night. You saved me the hassle of starting a topic about that.

This just might be the new ride that I ride at the end of the day, sorry Millennium:(
