Marina Docking

My family wants to take a boat from Detroit (more likely to be Monroe) to Cedar Point. I was wondering if the Marina allows for overnight boat docking. We were thinking of going for Labor Day weekend from Friday to Monday.

Transient Docks are available.

Thanks very muck Doug.

CPGuru you will want to call as soon as you can, the transient docks are probably full if not close.

From Monroe, depending on the vessels' crusing speed you could bet on a 2.5 to 3 hour ride. Make sure you have a lake Erie chart to get you around all of the islands to the northeast of CP.

Or just cruise around until you find an island you like. ;) Either that, or you'll run into Canada.

I would hope if his family is taking a boat they know something about boating and how do get there David.

Just because someone knows about boating does not mean that they know how to get where they are going. Every weekend I see idiot after idiot asking where is gull island on lake st. clair. I am no way saying CPGuru does not know what he is doing but I am just making sure that he has his bases covered. Also in most cases when you are traveling across a lake you do not run into a barage of islands with no marked channel.

Furthermore how do you not know this will be there first trip in a boat, some people like to "grab life by the horns" and run with it. There is nothing wrong with me giving advice to someone, if they were allready aware then no harm no foul, if not then I may have saved them a headache. Since he is asking advice it is rather safe to say he probably has not made a trip to CP by boat before.

Once again there is nothing wrong with looking out for somebodys safety, especialy when it comes to boating on larger bodies of water where you can not see land in any direction when you are in the center of the lake.

Boating seems like a dangerous hobby if your a moron.

Let's Get Weird.

Yes it is, but then again that is why companys such as michigan marine and salvage make a killing. Just to have your boat towed any distance is a 600$ minimum charge.

My sister in law taught that child last school year. The family spends just about every waking moment on the water. Just because you are educated or experienced on the water does not mean you are safe 100% of the time. It is allways the other guy you have to look for.

Buy a GPS unit, preferably a laptop with a USB GPS adapter- best thing ever. I used MS Streets 2005, I had no problem what so ever.

I just bought a Raymarine e120. The unit will do anything you could possibly ask for, and the clarity is amazing. Granted my last chartplotter was black and gray and damn near useless in the sun.

The transient docks are hit or miss during the weekend. It all depends on weather and lake conditions. Last Saturday I counted maybe 10 boats. Call ahead if the weather is boating friendly.

Ride on, MrScott!

Anything can be dangerous if used properly (or should I say improperly).

This CRT, usually its completely harmless, right? But what if I were to bash your head through the glass? That would hurt, no?

:)

That depends on if the glass breaks or not and if its turned on. It'll hurt a lot more if the glass doesn't break.

lol, it was just an example. Okay, a wall. What about that? A knife, usually used in control but could totally destroy a human being.

Anything can be used, even smaller things but maybe in mass quantity, to cause bodily harm. Anything that can be hit against a person or used to puncture the skin, etc.

And besides, you said that it would hurt more that way, which would mean it hurts either way.

It might hurt if the glass breaks, but not nearly as bad as if it didn't break.

Get hit with a paintball. If it breaks, its usually not bad. If it doesn't and bounces, it'll welt up pretty good and hurt like hell.

Yeah, but if the glass breaks on a CRT, you'll be in for one hell of a shock on the inside. Doesn't hurt too bad when I hit my head against my LCD while reading all those Project 2007 threads, though.
