Well, the contract has been signed and Mantis is getting a much-needed painting, for sure.

Just like you said "for sure" it was going to be this year?

I know that the folks at the park have said it is going to be done but gave no specific date. Hopefully this is the date we've been waiting for.

I think you mean last year. Plans fell through because Cedar Point had some **other business**, so the job was pushed to this year. We signed yesterday. It's for real this time. :-) (That's not all that's in the deal.)

Hey, he was the one who kept saying Mantis WASN'T getting painted for this year, so I'm inclined to say that I believe him.

It probably wasn't in the budget so it was cut. Just like a million other things.

Do you really think it's good for business to share such information if it's what you do for a living?

Jeff, I was wondering if you knew why the paint on the Mantis has faded so badly. I have never seen another coaster at the park in such a faded paint job. The Raptor for example, which has been around far longer.

Raptor was just recently painted.

But even over the past seasons the Raptor has never been close to the state Mantis is in.

Raptor was repainted not too long ago, but it was painted in a lighter color that tends not to fade so badly... Mantis is paited with darker colors, and sits over water which absorbs sun quickly, drawing sun to Mantis and fading the dark colors faster.

Though I think the problem with Mantis was that it was painted on site in Sandusky and not in the factory in Southern Ohio.

Uh... do you even know who Dan is?

I think someone with close to 1700 posts on this site would know the "so-called history of Mantis".

I can't wait to see Mantis with it's new paint job next season. It is quite the picturesque coaster as it is. This will only make it even more irresistable to the shutter bug in all of us.

Dan---nice System Of A Down line in your sig.. :)

Just imagine though... red rails. That will make the ride quite striking!

Is the Big Bug getting red rails? WOW.. that will be a sight for sure. One of the best pictures I've seen of it was on the cover of the Roller Coaster book by David Bennett and it is pictured with the regular steel rails. I envision a whole new collection of photos in my albums of Mantis now!
