Be nice, Nash! Last year's Mantis crew was less than stellar. It wasn't entirely their fault... they were catching a lot of flack for low capacity that was caused mostly by the addition of seat belts to the ride.

However, they decided to take it out on the guests, and they quickly got a reputation for being rather, um, well, not friendly.

I think new people with a little bit of pride in their work can restore our faith in the ride. It just takes patience. Let's face it, standing on a coaster isn't natural, and the restraint system doesn't help. I'm sure you and your crewmates can turn it around and make something positive out of it!

So what went wrong last year with the crew. Will it all be different people this year or what? And how are the seatbelts set up I did not make it to cedar point last year. Thanks again for any input!!

The belts hang from the bicycle seat and connect to the over-the-shoulder harness. The problem is, they're very difficult to reach, and difficult to buckle. Guest spend a lot of time fumbling with them while simultaneoulsy trying to get the seat to the right height. It slows things down big time.

The crew, or certain members of it, were just not nice about helping people out. They were generally rude every time I rode. I assume they were taking heat from management about the capacity decline, so they in turn attributed it to "stupid" guests. I'm fairly certain some members of the crew were either booted off the crew all together. I know I filed a complaint.

Like I said... clean slate. I'm sure you'll do fine!

The Mantis crew provided my department with endless hours of line jumping, smoking, and rude guest reports. If not for them, I would have been forced to patrol the Berry Market and Fort Sandusky!
On a serious note, please imagine what it must be like to work on Mantis. Long lines, bad music, and cranky guests. Give them a break. After all, we are all on the same team.
I can agree with you kodiak, but still, its their jobs. They are supposed to have pride with there work, and show it. I know that If i worked at CedarPoint as a Mantis crew member, I might get the same feelings, but I wouldn't show it. Its gives a bad reputation for the park, and to the employee. Thats not something that CP would like to have considering that they are "the best amusement park in the world!"

Oh God... don't get me started on my "If you hate your job" speech.

We've got employees on this board that clean projectile diarhea (cha cha cha) and serve fried cheese to people who ask when the 10 o'clock laser show will be, and these people love their jobs. You couldn't pay me enough to do those jobs, but somehow they come back summer after summer and take pride in their work. Making excuses for rude behavior toward guests is a cop out... it's not acceptable, period. If it's such a tough job, go home to mom and dad and work in the mall. I'd kill to go back to my college years and work a roller coaster for a summer.

I just got my contract in the mail today and i have been assigned to Mantis also. I understand the problems with the crew in the past but i am very excited to be working on a roller coaster this summer and look forward to the challenge of turning the reputation of the Mantis crew into a postive one. Like mention earlier, clean slate, I can't wait to help people board the best stand up roller coaster in the world. I will be a pround employee of Mantis. I promise you that. This will also be my first year.

Hey Jeff! Thanks! I'll clean up after you again, any day of the summer ;)
Hey Jake.. Welcome to Cedar Point. I have been working really long hours trying to make sure this park is going to be great for people like you when you arrive this spring. I came home tonight.. tired, grouchy, and asking myself what I do it for. Yes, I do it for our guests.. but, then I read your post. You have made my night. Thank you so much. It is wonderful to hear such enthusiasm in someone who hasn't even set foot on Point yet. I think I will have to stop by Mantis sometime and see how it is going. To all the rest of you out there.. you have to admit that reading that post made you feel good about the awesome job we do! No matter what it is! I've worked the Coasters, Cleaned the projectile diaharia and served the fried cheese.. and YES.. (the 10:00 laser light show is at 10:00!). NO matter what your job is.. if you can keep the spirit of what Cedar Point is all about.. then you're going to have a great summer.
Working the Mantis crew should be fun. Compard to other rides in the park this one should be more enjoyable. Regardless of what's said about the crew from last year enjoy it because it's a new season.
