Hey guys,
I'm planning on working and living at the point next summer in one of their dorms. My question is, have any of you managed to make your own food? When I say "make your own food" I mean keeping it simple. Sandwiches mostly and maybe cereal for breakfast everyday. The reason I ask is because greasy food doesn't exactly agree with me all the time, and I figure their cafeteria food is mostly that, hahaha. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance. :)
People pack their lunches for work and eat in the dorms all the time. There's not exactly a "food preparation" area in the dorms, but if you're cool with making a sandwich on top of your dresser it'll be fine.
Or live an apartment in employee housing. I used to cook dinners and have leftovers all the time. Granted I had my own fridge in my room. Nothing is safe in the general common area. Most of my roommates were good about keeping the stuff clean they used. But ever room always has a KID who thinks it's not their responsibility. But I've noticed these people carry that attitude on at work also and get canned pretty quick. We also took a collection of $5 a person and bought a good microwave.

Oh I like making food for myself and other people in my family. it is nice when people are happy to enjoy what we have made :)
When I worked at CP this summer, I lived in the commons dorms, and I brought a mini fridge. They have microwaves in the dorms for general use, but I brought my own nonetheless. I went grocery shopping and stocked my fridge, and had a lot of nonperishable good (like canned food and boxed food and such) too. So food preparation, though inconvenient, was most definitely possible. Yeah, get used to preparing food on a dresser/tupperware lid or something. Unless you live in the apartments!~

the cafeteria food isnt that bad actually. They had chicken fingers and stuff but they would also have spaghetti and soups and salads and good entree meals like that. But if youre looking for food while you arent working it is best to get a mini fridge and some lunch meat and/or a selection of microwavables. Or use your friends' stove in the apartments :)
I lived in commons. It did save some money to buy things that I could keep in my mini fridge, rather than keep dropping money on food in the break areas. I'm a sucker for greasy food, I can't help it. The microwaves for general use were getting kind of old, im sure from repeated use for a long time so something that would take normally 2 minutes in a personal microwave took 5-6. I can't remember what the rules were for appliances in your own room, but i'm sure in a crunch, your own microwave would save you time. Good things to have in your dorm when you don't have much time are :muffens, toaster items, chips, sandwiches, etc.
