Magnums Station

I very rarely start a new topic, as usually there are hundreds of topics about the same idea, but in this case, after reading several trip reports this year, I've noticed that one of the major complaints is with Magnums station set-up.

What are your thoughts on how this could be re-designed? And furthermore, since I was too young when it opened, was the station always mass chaos?

I feel that the station could be designed better...the addition of the air-gates was a slight improvement, but it's being overcrowded leads to confusion as to what line/seat you're actually waiting for.

A single rider line would not be a bad idea either, considering how many they get in a day.

Feedback?

Put someone at the turnstile and keep the damn place in some resemblance of order, it's that simple.

I think they should run it just like Maverick's station. 7 rides so far and not one of them was the least bit confusing. Things are number, it's easy to see where you're going, it's easy to choose to wait for the front, etc.

I'd be happy if they ran every station that way.

Mark

That's really all that needs to be done. Run it like Mavericks. I too have no idea why they don't solve the problem.

"Thats when friends were nice, to think of them just makes you feel nice"

Station = wayy to crowded..they need to do something about that.

People are whiney. Don't touch Magnum's station. I like being able to get up there faster and then push my way to 1-3 for fast rides.

Kevinj's avatar

Not to sound "whiney", but this has been a problem for a number of years. Quite frankly, TTD also gets very bad, because whoever sits there always lets way too many people in at once. This helps no-one.

What Loopy said. Only actually pay attention, and dont let too many people in.

The deal is, Magnum is THE reason sone people come to CP. Just like MF, TTD, and now Maverick. No matter what your list is, it is probably in everyone's "Must ride" list. WHen guests come to CP and then get up to the queue, the first thought is, "What a mess".

Which is exactly what is has been for a number of years now.

Promoter of fog.

When I was there, there was a guy at the turnstile there letting people in, and I thought he was doing a pretty good job of regulating the amount of people in the station.

They ought to expand the front of the station. The line for the front seat goes along the wall there, making access to 1-2 and 1-3 difficult. Take that wall out and make the station more rectangular. Admittedly, it might be more of an eyesore from the outside, but at least it wouldn't be such chaos inside.

Better yet, make the front seat a longer queue than the other seats so you can tell where they're in line. I don't know how many times I've had to ask someone which line they were in.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

I don't think it needs redesigned. I just think (as previously stated) that crowd control is the key. I have been there a few times that they were doing a great job with it. They would only allow 2 or so trains worth of people at a time. I also hate it when there are a hundred people up there. It also makes lining up with the rest of your party a pain!

Don't yet as many people in the station at once!

Wow cuz im whining..I simply pointed out a good point and..when you are doing that you are LINE JUMPING because the people on the sides are actually waiting to get to those seats..so technically it is all madness..unless we are like you and cut in front of everybody and push- line jump to get to the front.

It's not line jumping when you get in line for the 3rd seat on Magnum. There's just never a line for that particular row.

I did that Monday. I walked into a packed station, saw a void around 1-2 and 1-3 and went straight there. People deffinetly didn't looks happy, but hey, they weren't in that line. Life goes on.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Yeah there is the people on the sides are waiting for it but dont want to be rude and push and shove people.

I always do that. Out of my 10 recent rides, 6 of them were in seat 1-2, simply because there are always less people there. It might not sound right, but it's not line-jumping by definition. Maybe if the station was different or the crowd was better controlled that wouldn't happen.

^^ - Actually no. I always ask people if they are waiting for the front when I go up there and the reply is always "no". If people feel they are being cut they will let you know.

Magnum's station really needs to be remodeled to look like Riddler's if they aren't going to diminish the station crowds for whatever reason. Riddler's Revenge station at Magic Mountain has the rows pointed horizontally and they extend back quite a bit.

Out of my own 71 rides a good 50 of them have been in 1-2 or 1-3. It's not line jumping when you ask people what row they are waiting for. I am not sure when you noticed this Jerreus but it was unlucky really.

101 on Magnum and counting...

Actually, the gates are part of the problem. When the gates were installed, the rails in the station were rearranged. Originally, the right-hand rail for row 3 ran diagonally until it connected with the left-hand rail for row 4. The left-hand rail for row 2 was (naturally) parallel to the right-hand rail for 3, and then once it was even with the end of the row 3 rail, it angled to the right and continued parallel to the wall for another 8 feet or so. Let me see if I can illustrate this in ASCII:

| 1 | 1 | 1 | * | 2 | 2 | 2 | * | 3 | 3 | 3 | * | 4 | 4 | 4 | * | 5 | 5 | 5 |
\ 1 \ 2 \ 3 \ ' | 1 | 2 | 3 | ' | 1 | 2 | 3 | ' | 1 | 2 | 3 | ' | 1 | 2 | 3 |
X\ . \ . \ . \' | . | . | . | ' | . | . | . | ' | . | . | . | ' | . | . | . |
XX\ . \ . \ . \ | . | . | . | ' | . | . | . | ' | . | . | . | ' | . | . | . |
XXX\ . \ . \ . \| . | . | . |___| . | . | . |___| . | . | . |___| . | . | . |
XXXX\ . \
XXXXX\ . \
XXXXXX\ . \
XXXXXXX\ . \
XXXXXXXX\
XXXXXXXXX\
XXXXXXXXXX\
XXXXXXXXXXX\

That's the way it used to be, and it worked reasonably well. When the gates were installed, we ended up with the mess we have up there now:

O===O===O===O * O===O===O===O * O===O===O===O * O===O===O===O * O===O===O===O

You see the difference? You see why people stack up in line for 1.1 and block access to 1.2, 1.3 and 2.1?
