Magnum hauling...

Magnum hauled again last night... No holds bar all the way!
Well, tonight when the trims were actually on (for 2 rides total only) they were on hard for the first time in about a month. You know they are on hard when the pretzel is rough. I guess they don't like Magnum hauling too much. (Although it is fun to ride when it nearly stalls out in the pretzel and on the top of the hills while chanting "rollback" :))

The trims are there to regulate speed, which most of you already know, but having worked with the ride all summer, I learned to watch and regulate the speed of trains and trims. When they are going too fast, you will definitly hear about it because everybody will get off the ride and tell me how rough it was. I believe them, I have ridden it when it has been going a little fast and it really hurts. Sometimes it feels like it's going really fast at night when in fact it is pretty much in the range of where it should be.

Hey, I like those 57 second rides on Magnum! Don't go calling maintenance to jack up the trims Erin! ;)

57 is not too bad...but 54 tends to hurt a little!

Now that would be an awesome ride in 1-3! If you ride it right, it doesn't hurt.

It is all about riding correctly. People that slouch down in the seats are going to be in pain. I find that if the bar hits me down toward my knees rather than up higher, it doesn't hurt so bad. I usually try to ride with the seatbelt pretty tight and the bar just a little lose. I try to hold it up during the ride too because it tends to staple you sometimes if you don't.

It's amazing how much SMOOTHER Magnum is in the pretzle with no trims! The return run can be out of control sometimes, but the pretzle is more comfortable with no trims I think.

Does anyone know what the time has to be for an overspeed alarm? It has to be pretty darn low. I don't know exactly, but I'd say it has to be less than 54 seconds. 57 definitely would not cause any problems.

Matt it depends on the weather. 56 has done it before, but other times 55 and 54 have caused one. The 56 was when it was real hot and humid so the trains were going faster.

I really get as much room between me and the lapbar, and hold the bar up with me legs/cross my legs. I can stand up on the 3rd hill sometimes. (not really stand up, but if I put my feet down then I would)

One of my last rides, I told the guy in front of me that I'd me standing on the third hill, but he didn't believe me...He was surprised when I did. Magnum's third hill is more floater than ejector though is that is the least "painful" hill.

Maybe the reason it's the least painful now, is due to the fact it was so painfull, they had to reprofile the second half of it.

Friday night after waiting for them to put the third train on, I got the best Magnum ride of my life. First off, after 13 years of riding Maggie, I finally got stopped on the hill. We were E-stopped because as we were leaving the station, one of the ops noticed someone had taken their seat belt off.

Also, my lap bar was only down one click, loosest I've ever had it. I actually held it up to keep it from clicking in. And to top it off, I was riding ejector seat, and there was a full train with absolutely no trims. The person behind me saw a lot of my butt on the return, because I was completely out of my seat. Unfortuneately, my friend got stapled by the ride op, but I didn't care because my ride was so awesome.

Just so you know, you most likely weren't E-stopped. Magnum is usually only E-stopped by accident (ie. basketball falling off the ledge in the control booth). They probably called "HOLD" (it was "STOP" last year on Maggie according to my manual, but I think it might have changed this year) in the station, but it was too late and the train slipped through the brakes. When this happens, the person in controls just presses the lift stop button once the train has completely engaged the chain (not half on half off). At this point, the someone calls park op and says "This is <name> at Magnum. We are down loaded operational guest seatbelt." Someone then has to run out under the lift and be ready to turn the key. The person who called records the downtime on the DOR and once a supervisor calls back and says take the ride up again (usually under a minute), the person in controls pulls up on the lift stop button and the person under the lift turns the key to start the lift. Then call park op again and say, "Hi this is <name> at Magnum. We are back up with 3 (or whatever number of trains are on)."

There's a crash course for future Maggie ride ops in dealing with missed or removed seatbelts. It's similar for setups too...

You know it was nice to go from Mean Streak to MAgnum because Magnum didn't have nearly as many guest seatbelts. It was a good thing the transfer track was in front of the station because guests took their seatbelts off all the time. If the transfer track wasn't there, MS would have set up all the time.

Thank you for the lesson Matt. I always love hearing in detail how these things work, hopefully I'll get to use the knowledge someday.

Haha! :) No problem - I love learning about how different things in the industry work and having had the chance to work Magnum, I just like to let others know how things work since I have a pretty good deal of knowledge about CP operations and Magnum in particular.

Long live the knocks! ;)
