One thing we have to make sure we do this year is crew shirts. We didn't have one in 2001 and it was a little disappointing.
See you in May!

Hey Matt D. I have never met you but I have heard awesome things about you!
p.s. not to sound snotty, but no one should really act like they know the ride even if they have been told everything about it. It's totally different when you actually start working it. You should only act like that if you have actually worked the ride before. So like I said not to be snotty or bossy but no one should act like that unless they have worked the ride before.
And you'd be surprised how much someone can know about a ride without working it. I've never actually "worked" a ride.. but I bet I know more about 99% of them than the people who DO work them, and not all from my job.
Then you have people like Dave "Rifeman" who can probably swin circles around most ride mechanics and such. Don't judge someone by thier enthusiasm. You might be shocked by the results.

p.s. Kara- I'm going to send you a picture of what was in our paper...it's a beautiful shot of Shivering Timbers! I thought about you when I saw it and I had to keep reminding my dad not to throw it away!
p.p.s. I'm agreeing with my girl on the crew...sorry Mark but I guess Mean Streak will have to take a close 2nd in the sexiest coaster crew in the park!
I can testify that it is possible to know a great deal about a ride without working it. Someone can come in the first day and know how the platform procedures work, what can and can't get by entrance, maybe even how the controls work or all the spiels. I knew the spiel in 01 before I showed up, but I was still too nervous to do a very good job at it my first day. Yep, Andy made me spiel first day because he had talked to me during the offseason and he knew that I knew my stuff. I'll know my stuff this year too, but it doesn't mean I'm not going to listen to what Katy or Jill say my first day. Stuff has changed since I worked the ride (namely gates and co-dispatch) so I need to make sure I know how that works. I know I talked to Mark a lot last offseason. He went from "what's an intervul?" in the winter to probably being almost trained by the time he showed up. I don't think he showed up and acted like he was invincible though. Same with Kara this year. I love talking to people about Magnum. It's fun passing along your enthusiasm and knowledge for something to someone else. :)
But I'll agree that there are certain things that can't easily be tought by talking on the IMer. Things like how to deal with rude guests, how to deal with or stay out of all the drama that CP might toss your way, how to get along with different types of people on the crew, etc. About the best you can do is warn people of what's to come so they can be prepared to deal with it.
And Matt F, when you said, "let me tell you..." Haha - that reminded me of Shari! OH MY GOD LET ME TELL YOU! :) I talked to her the other night actually and she said she isn't coming back. :(
Anyway, I better get ready for class. I look forward to working with everyone in May! :)

I'm so glad you're gonna be right across the midway from me. You'll have to let me know when you have candy so I can "stock up", hehe.
P.S.- You guys have a long way to go if you're going to try to beat the sexiness of last year's crew... If anyone wants the "Men of Magnum" wall calendar (or, for the occasional CP staff member that likes girls, "Women of Magnum"), let me know. November's treat is me washing the blue train in a speedo and wet white T-shirt...
