Low Clearence on CCMR

I think this is the most idiotic thing I could think of trying - on any ride. I guess some of you folks don't need to keep your hands.

The most dangerous spot I can think of is I always thought that you could completely maim yourself on the Magnum if you were sitting on the inside seat on the way back to the station where track does a right turn and is now right next the the lift hill. In that turn right there I always thought there should be some wall or protection just in case you get bumped into the lift supports. Maybe it is an optical illusion, but I know it is close.

First off, if people want to put their hands up and try to hit a support, that's their choice. :-\

2nd, You're right. Gilman's post right above yours - That support is very close to the track and even I have nipped it with a gloved-hand on accident. It is very easy to do. CCMR is also very easy to do, I tried it once just to see if it was really that close and it is. Doesn't hurt, though.

I have touched the wood hand rails on Mean Streak. we were going slow so I tried and hit them no problem.

First - there is no "grandfathering" clause anywhere about clearence envelopes. All manufacturers do their almighty best to design the perfect transition - but - there are times when this does not happen. If you carefully watch all the promo shots CP/CF makes you will notice that at no time do the "riders" extend their arms - they are always in the down or hold on position. No photos are released unless this is correct. All speils advise arms down hold on theme. If you try hard enough - guess what - I have seen a number of times where the rider wished he would have observed the rules, instead of being a show off. Sit there and enjoy - the arm up thing is uncomfortable, the true purist should try to do it "right".

ok i dont knwo why people want to do this your going to give a bad naem to coasters and saftey and then youll sue because you got hurt but if you really want to do somethign so stupid drive on the high way open the door and touch the pavement. doesnt sound too smart

the beast has some good opprtunitys thouhg on the tunnels if your not carefull you can snag your hand on the tunnels ouch!!!

Sorry Dude to deflate your arguement, but probably most folks don't ride with their arms up just to "show off".

Of course CP commercials show people holding on. That is actually park policy and the law I believe.

cyberdman - Its the law because CP says it is. Ohio Law states that you must follow all rider guidelines of the park. So anything CP says about riding (like keeps your hands down) is defacto Ohio Law.

So technically, if they said you had to ride with a womans thong on your head, you'd have to.

What the hell? "Purist"? we have purists now?

I sure as hell wouldn't ever consider myself a purist, and second, you're saying to sit there and enjoy, well some people actually ENJOY putting their hands up.

Ba***rd, H*ll ;)

I agree I don't want to sit there all up tight holding onto the lapbar. I want to let loose and throw my arms in the air. It's a place to have fun. Why would you put your arms in the air to show off?

It is law because it's park policy. Doesn't make sense? Well, here's how it works in Ohio.

The Ohio Revised Code states that all riders must follow posted safety instructions and failure to comply is a misdemeanor. (Somebody with more familarity with the statue can chime in and say if that includes verbal instructions or not.) That means, any sign the park posts is, essentially, state law.

For instance, at PKI there is a sign at Delirium that simly says "State law forbids dropping objects." You may say "where does the ORC say that?" Well, it doesn't. But it does say that you must comply with posted safety instructions. That sign is basically saying that since it's there saying you're forbidden to drop objects, it's law because the law says to obey the signs.

Anyone follow?

[Edit: Woah, hello page 2 that I didn't see... Jugga already mentioned what I just said, but I'll not delete it because I took too much time to type it.]

Well, I can see both sides of the coin. When I have my arms up, it's not for show, its to feel that I'm outside of the train, and it heightens the enjoyment of the ride for me. I never think about hitting my arms on the structure, but now that it's been pointed out, and I think about it, I suppose you really could hurt yourself. I can understand the policy by Cedar Point, but a coaster wouldn't be a coaster without the arms up. On another note, I experienced something for the first time the other day. Since Dragster has opened, we have ALWAYS put our arms up on it. We've rolled back 4 times, and we have this strange idea that we help to cause it by causing wind resistance. Well, it came to my attention that my ride experience was completely consumed with the hope of a rollback, so I decided to keep my arms down. What a difference. It was so nice to actually enjoy the ride and the view without being so concerned about doing everything in my power to rollback. Try it sometime, it's pretty amazing.

I don't mean being an idiot and trying to get injured by trying to touch a support. I'm just talking about having a good time.

Posssibly breaking your hands at the wrist is a "good time"?

Just sounds dumb to me.

MrScott

Mayor, Lighthouse Point

I've been doing it for years and not once have I tried to touch the support. If I think there is a possibility that I might touch them then I put my hands down. I'm not crazy.

I noticed also that on all CP/CF pictures the riders have their hands attached. BUT, If you look at the Wicked Twister homepage. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/wicked_twister/index.cfm
You can see 2 riders with there hands "up".

1. MF 2. Nitro 3. TTD 4. KK 5. Raptor 6. WT 7. Storm Runner 8. Medusa 9. Maggie 10. Great Bear.
Top wood
1. El Toro 2. Lightning Racer 3. Blue Streak 4. Comet @ HP 5. Great White @ Morey's Pier

The part of Magnum in question can't really be reached (unless you've got incredibly long arms!) and the contact point is smooth steel.

Attempting to hit a support or other blunt object at high speed is ludicrous. I hit a small tree branch on Zues - quite by accident, as it was hanging over the track on an early morning run, and the maintenance at Mt. Olympus my not have been the "best in the business" at that time - and it stung like hell.

If it looks like you can hit it, you probably can. And I doubt you'll get much help from the park with your injuries.

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them"

What about wildcat? I havent be on it in a while but if i remember correctly, towards the end of the ride there a banked turn where the supports seem so low that they were gonna hi my head! I never went on after that, it freaked me out. Then again i am 6' 2". Anyone else notice this? I feel like thats the worst one in the park.

"Milk was a bad choice..."

I was Riding MS a few weeks ago. Right before the camera I caught a tree by accident. I felt something hit my hand and I looked over and I was holding onto a couple of leaves. It did not hurt, but if I had seen the tree coming i would have moved my hand because it looked like it would have hurt

Peace, Mikey
