Low Clearence on CCMR

When I was at the park the other day riding CCMR with my hands up, I could easily touch the track above me. I now know why they tell you keep your hands down. Has anyone else experenced this on CCMR or any other ride?

No, but that might be because I'm only 5'8".

Oh, well im 5'10 and wasnt even holding my hands all the way up, so I bet a few people have had it happen before.

Where in the ride do you think that this is possible? There is what looks like a hand guard just before the turn to the second lift hill. Is that the spot?

There are several rides at CP and probably any park where this is possible. If you're hands are straight up, you are probably okay, but out to the sides of the train is not really advisable.

Yeah, I think it was.

That is why the hand guard is there. Now days they run clearance chekcers on the trains like here http://www.pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?i=1172 , does anyone know if it is required for new coasters to meet certain clearance specs? I think it would be. Also do older coasters get "grandfathered" into this rule

I can touch track and supports several places on CCMR if I really want to. If you know how to position yourself on Magnum you can also get enough air going through the last tunnel to brush the tunnel top with your fingers. Of course you have to be at least 6' like me to pull it off, or have extremely long arms. :)

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

^I'm 6' and have tried that many times in many seats and have yet to reach it. You must have pretty long arms!

The *real* hand smacker is on MF coming out of the first overbank. I know that one's still reachable, even with the cut out they did. I'm afraid to try that one.

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them"

My friend said his hand hit a overpass on CCMR, I'm not sure if he was telling the truth or not but, hes a pretty big kid.

Do you like stupid videos? Do like awseomeness? Then go to www.idiots.co.nr!

A ride that you can really smack your hands on his Mean Streak. I've never tried but it looks awfully close.

Why you want to do such a thing?

Because people are dumb, what do you think?

I smacked the crap out of my hand one day a few years back before they cut into that support on Millennium Force. Hurt for a good hour.

Ouch. Bone on steel would not feel good at all. Neither would bone on wood, that would be a nasty splinter.

Did you try and touch it or were you just riding with your hands up? Please say you were just minding your business because if not you would have to be crazy to try and touch a support on MF

New Season of 'The Office'. TONIGHT!!!

Actually, it wasn't I who got the tunnel on Magnum, it was a friend of mine who is basically the same height as me, maybe an inch taller. But I have come very, very close to it. Just another inch or so off my seat and I could. But I'm not stupid enough to try too.

I got a good whack in on Magnum's curved bunny hop once. It was a cold Halloweekends night and I was bundled up pretty nicely with thick ski gloves. I didn't feel a thing but it made a nice "ping" noise.

I think this is the most idiotic thing I could think of trying - on any ride. I guess some of you folks don't need to keep your hands.

The most dangerous spot I can think of is I always thought that you could completely maim yourself on the Magnum if you were sitting on the inside seat on the way back to the station where track does a right turn and is now right next the the lift hill. In that turn right there I always thought there should be some wall or protection just in case you get bumped into the lift supports. Maybe it is an optical illusion, but I know it is close.

Probably the best example I have of this, even though not at CP, is in the final tunneled helix on the Beast. One of my friends accidentally had her hands too far out the outside from the force of the ride and hit her hand on the tunnel. She came out bleeding enough that we had to take her to First Aid.....

That last helix on the Beast will get you if you aren't careful. My hands had a very close call with the tunnel wall the last time I rode it.
