I have a few questions for everyone. Are the loose article bins new for this season? Is it just me, or do they waste valueable ride time? What does everyone think?
CP has had loose article bins for a while, but I believe the MS bins were added this year or last. I think they are a great addition to rides. People generally hurry and put their things in the bins and come right back. I don't think it wastes a lot of time. Its a lot more fun riding for me when I don't have to worry about losing something on the ride.
Thrills Around the Corner!
Most of them are new this year. The only ones that had them in the past were Mantis, Raptor and Wicked Twister.

I thought so
The loose article bins have been there for a while but just this year they have become number oriented. I don't know if the bins really are a huge waste of time. They are quicker then having to tell someone with a stuffed animal they have to get off. Maybe if the attendants at the entrance enforce the loose article rule like on TTD, bins wouldn't be needed.
Praying for a rollback...
Now that everyone is talking about it, I guess they don't waste a lot of time. Plus you don't have to rent a locker!
I've seen a number of times that trains have gotten backed up and stopped in block brakes because people had to get unbuckled and go and put their items in the bins.

I was at Cp Last month and was waiting to get on the Mean Streak. Some guy had a loose article and was going to put it in the bin. He went up to the bin and put in the wrong train color bin. Then a ride op. started screaming at this guy, and she was telling him to put it in the bin with "gold" written on it. She made this guy look like an idiot, and it was pretty funny, but I thought the whole situation was a huge waste of time.
I like them so I can put my hat away instead of putting it down my shirt or hanging onto it the whole ride.
Let's Get Weird.
Now, I can understand why MF dosent have one, because you get on it in one spot and get off in another, but I feel it is one of the rides that needs them the most.
I have an idea to take care of this though. Disney has an area in front of each seat on rides that you could put glasses in. Anyone else think this would work?

We used to enforce the "no loose article" policy at most then all ride entrances. But CP management changed the rules twice last season, with their final decision allowing people to bring on loose articles in all ride lines except on MF and TTD.
Personally, I liked the "no loose articles in any ride line" rule because it allowed my crew and others hit interval a lot easier because we didn't have to unlock seats for people who didn't listen to the speils about putting loose artilces in the bins BEFORE sitting down in the seat!

If it makes the line 5 minutes longer, so be it. If it allows me to better enjoy my day by being able to bring my camera or wear at hat and not worry about losing them on the ride, then I'm all for it.
Honestly, I don't care if it interferes with people's power riding? Does that make me an a** hole? Yeah, it probably does, but someone bitching about how it interferes with their amount of rides is also just as much of an a** hole.

No, that's not a bad thing.
I was knocking on the enthusiast community, not you :).

I've seen this too and I think this is going overboard.
But at the same time, I've also seen ops that are capable of using common sense and knowing they don't have a lot of time to play with and saying, "why don't I just take this and put it in the bin for you?" Then they clear the train and go put the article in the apropriate bin. I know they're probably breaking policy by doing this (you know touching someones stuff makes you responsible for it or osmething like that), but they're also keeping things moving and I appreciate that.
I've observed the bins at Magnum in particular and I've been surprised they've worked out as well as they have. I am sure they do cause a few setups each day that wouldn't have happened without them, but I think it is a better alternative than trying to boot someone out if they get all the way up there and into the train with a loose article. I think guests appreciate them as well.
