Long Term Parking Plans

I don't foresee a parking structure in the near future for Cedar Point. If it comes down to it, they could expand the Breakers Express and Castaway lots into where they stored the Valravn track and supports and shuttle people in.

As far as the park running out of land, I disagree. There is land available, you just might have to move or retire some things to get to it. Cedar Point also has their coasters spread out. If need be, they could start developing the way Hersheypark has where they have multiple attractions interacting with each other. I could see them replacing Corkscrew with an attraction that crosses over Dragster and the midway. The dinos could go the way of the dinosaurs and open up all the land on the island and an attraction could interact with MF on its turnaround. There looks like there is a fair amount of space under Valravn if they wanted to build an attraction there such as a flat or a haunt like they did with Slaughterhouse. They could tuck it in between the dive loop and the road and not block any views nor cut down trees for an ugly building.

I really hope that I'm long gone before the removal of MF.

Likewise. Still, Cedar Point has removed almost as many coasters (15) as are currently in the park; the day will come for those coasters, too. No time soon, I trust.

Reading all this talk about lack of land on the peninsula got me to thinking.....I was looking at my park poster wall map and noticed something interesting. Something that has been done at Burke Lakefront airport in Cleveland in the past and other areas. That airport didn't exist years ago because there was only water there. Look at the triangular marina water area above Famous Dave's and to the left of the current Cedars Dorms (the area that is landlocked by a breakwall). There is only 1 boat dock in that spot currently. What if this area was to be filled in with dredging or dirt to create new land mass on the peninsula? All you would have to do is build new off-point housing for Cedars (has been talked about recently), demo those buildings, and build a walkway (with an overhead bridge/under-road tunnel for Perimeter road) to connect to that area. Think of the resort gate by Magnum. It can be done. The new midway connecting to this new area of the park could be located between the Luminosity bleachers and the CP/LE Railroad main station traveling south toward the bay. I think this would be possible with a relocation of some bathrooms and it would certainly open up a new area of the park that could feature an "Old Cedar Point" section ala Kennywood or area for new rides. Thoughts??

Dealing with the EPA would be a nightmare if not just outright impossible to do any land reclamation, especially close to or on the lake side.

Most definitely it would be very cost prohibitive from a ROI standpoint.

Not so sure about that. That area I'm talking about (to be filled in) is on the Sandusky Bay side and that same area also used to connect to the lagoons years ago. The area in between there and the lagoons used to be a water inlet stretching across the CP peninsula (about a decade before the Frontier Trial). What stands there now is filled in land with the MF turnaround, beginnings of the Frontier Trail, and Rogarou so it has been done before.

Not saying that it hasn't been done before, one thing has changed- The EPA has.

But you are correct all rides have a limited life span.

Wooden coasters can be continuously rebuilt, thus lasting forever. Mean Streak could outlive Millenium

As the president of Six Flags Great America noted at No Coaster to a question about American Eagle: "You never stop building a wood coaster."

But, as Islands of Adventure is currently proving, it is possible to rebuilt a steel coast also.

Speaking of Universal Resort...what if Cedar Point turned the current parking lot into more resort hotels, like Universal Resort did? I do not believe CP has hit its limit on rooms yet.

PS. Nice, timely webcam view by CP right now.

[edit: the webcam was pointed on the parking lot]

^^ Playing devil's advocate, they just removed rooms from Breakers last season. I can't recall the exact number but it was significant. 75? 100? If they are choosing to remove rooms and are still not booked at 100% capacity all season long, then there is probably little need to build a new resort hotel on Point in the near future.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Sandcastle get a refresh and update soon, maybe not to the extent that Breakers received, but needed improvements.

Agreed. I actually though Ouimet mentioned a refurb of both Hotel Breakers and Sandcastle Suites before the renovations began on HB. I seem to remember a video interview where he mentioned that.

CP did just add plenty of new cabins to the former Camper Village area though.

I am assuming the rooms comment was a joke, as CP seems to have an excess of those. I like the idea of filling in land by the marina, but the impediment wouldn't be the EPA it would be the Army Corps of Engineers which has to approve any alteration to a navigable waterway. I'm not sure the lagoons would fall into that category as they were internal and not open to public navigation. The idea of amassing more land is important but it has to be buildable in the grand scheme of things. Based on where Valraven is going, what else would the point do with a small plotof added land off perimeter road?

"Forgiveness is almost always easier to obtain than permission."

Giving all the past issues with Lake Erie back in the 70s and now the current algae problem I highly doubt the EPA, and all the other red tape would ever get approved.

Speaking of new attractions in the area...

Sports Force Park is building a huge sports park complex. Here's their site. While it isn't a whole new park, nor is it going to push CP to need more land, it shows there is a market for other unique attractions in the area.

Cedar Fair is invested in this project.

Interesting. I knew Cedar Fair invested in the project, didn't know they'd used the park's name on the project.

I noticed in the concept art that the park will have a Putt Putt course. Construction has already started, plenty of flags visible on the property.

Putt-Putt, a trampoline attraction, and what appears to be a ropes course/climbing structure. This looks like a cross between ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney and Challenge Park.
