Ok, so CP has billed this is as a great spot for observation of the lake and the park. I'm not sure if I quite understand why you'd put this type of ride so close to two observation rides already. (Giant Wheel and Space Spiral) I also never understood why all the observation rides were in this location instead of in the middle of the park. Why would I want to stare at all the bird droppings on Distaster Transport or a sea of cars in the parking lot or a bunch of flat water? I'd rather stare at the rest of the park! Your thoughts?
Giant Wheel used to be in the middle of the park, and was moved for Millennium Force.
That was just the best location they had space to put something in.5-10 years down the road with future additions, it might make more sense? Who knows.
Personally, I don't think Space Spiral is going to be there for a terribly long time in the future. So that leaves only 2.

It is going to be a great view from where they are putting it, but I would like to see it in the middle of the park. Imagine that view.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Last October, I was on Power Tower and it malfunctioned, causing us to be lowered from the top very slowly. It took at least five minutes to get to the ground. We were on the outside, facing Mantis and MF. The view was fantastic! I really wanted to take my camera out and get some pics but didn't, of course.
What makes you think Space Spiral is gonna be leaving soon? It doesnt really take up a footprint that can be used by something else, and its a classic at Cedar Point. If it did leave its spot I would imagine they would put it somewhere else.
Let's Get Weird.
Not that long ago, in talking about the removal of WWL, I believe Rideman mentioned some sort of formula or protocol the park uses in determining whether to remove older rides. Something about a comparison of the ridership versus the continuing operating and maintenance costs of the ride.
If that is the case, it seems a good bet to me that Space Spiral would be on the cusp of not making that arbitrary cut-off. On the other hand, Space Spiral is a classic and defining element on the Point's skyline, so maybe some special considerations might be made for its ongoing existence.
On the other, other hand, as has already been mentioned, there are now three viewing rides in that area of the park, so SS is superfluous.
So what's going to happen to it? I don't know. I'm out of hands.

It's a good ride for people that don't like to get spun in circles.
When amy was pregnat, it was one of the few things she cound do in the park.

Since you can't take pictures and can only go on it if you are tall enough and have a brave stomach, I think it's a stretch to call WindSeeker a viewing ride. I'm not sure if you're allowed to take pictures from Giant Wheel and it's not really that high, so I'm not sure that counts either. Which leaves just one viewing ride in that area. So no worries :)

Due to its location (and presuming the maintenance costs are not exceedingly high), I can't see Space Spiral being removed, unless *ahem* other attraction(s) are being removed from that immediate area as well, to make room for future additions.

Now if they could only fix the air inside the space spiral cabin. Everytime I go on it, it feels like they just put more water on the rocks.

Seaworld in San Diego has a Von Roll tower of similar vintage. The recently replaced the cabin on theirs as it was having the same issues as the one at CP. They contracted it out to a Japanese firm I believe. I haven't been on it since the change out however I understand there were some problems that had to be ironed out. Haven't heard of it becoming stuck for a while (the local media really likes to jump on that).
I was not aware of cedarpoints tower getting stuck?

Space Spiral always seems to run fine when I'm at the park, haven't heard of any problems with it getting stuck.
I would say that Space Spiral and Windseeker are for to totally different types of riders, Windseeker is not a viewing ride at all, even though it will have a great view. Space Spiral appeals to all ages as it is a very gentle elevator type ride where you are sitting in a cabin. Not intimidating at all, unlike Windseeker which will be frightening for people who are uncomfortable in high places.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
In 1985 Cedar Point was celbrating 20 years of going up and down on the Space Sprial without breaking down. Durin 1985 it broke down all of the time. Cedar Point then fixed the ride back to new sometime around 1985-1986. Maybee Cedar Point will give Space Sprial a overhall in a few years if not over this winter because it getting bad. When i rode it in July I have never hered it sound that bad and I ride it evertime i have been there. 2010 marks the 45th season of SPace Sprial.Knotts is removing their Space Sprial type ride form Windseaker which is not as old as Space Sprial. Cedar Point might have plans form fixing Space SPrial

I thought I heard somewhere that the pilings for Space Spiral were extremely deep in the ground. So, realistacally moving that ride is not an option that CP would even consider.

The recording on the ride tells you it is located 30 feet bellow ground level.
