yeah jumping into a pile of linen is always fun. We do that up on the floors too, we'd put all the comforters in a pile then jump into them. It is fun until you set back and think about the fact that they haven't been washed all season long or that they've only been washed once. But none the less it is fun to do that. LOL

As of this year Breakers employees can no longer live in the hotel the rooms tha they have used in the past for the employees have been condemed. However up untill this year if you worked in Accomadations mostly Breakers you were allowed to live there.I lived there in 2002 and 2004 and let me tell you that a good majority of the rooms there are very very old and you're better off living either off point or in gold/cedars, sad enought to say.
However the best part of living in the hotel was that you could get up in the morning and roll down to work all with in 10mins or less depending on how long it takes you to get ready in the morning. Also you're right there by the park and lake front witch was nice to lounge on after work or on your day off. The only down part to living on point is parking ban days and if you don't have a car it can be a pain too.

I just spoke with my Supervisor and he said the rooms have not been condemed. There where 10 rooms that are now stroage because the fire marshall would not allow employees to be housed that close to where guests where staying. In other words the 10 rooms which were across from the guests rooms will no longer house employees.
But guest accomndation staff can still stay in the hotel if there is room left when you process in.
Also I have known ppl who have stayed in the hotel and they have said it is for sure better then cedars.
The fire marshal wouldn't allow employees to stay near guests?
That doesn't add up.

Well prorbly because you cant LIVE within so many feet of where Guests (vistors) are staying. Prorbly because of how employees have like mini fridges and stuff like that. That if there was an emergency or a fire and the employees were right across from the guests it would block the guests. More then likely its just for the saftey of the paying guest. It makes sense to me.
If anything it'd be the state (health dept) saying you can't have longterm guests living with short term guests or the fact that the rooms dont have bathrooms may be another reason. But I'd put money on management not wanting guests seeing people walking around the hotel in only towels on their way to the shower--It happens, and the guest complain. This assuming that the rooms have not been deemed unhabitable (doubt condemned).
Employees have mini-fridges...sure. But what do you call what the guests in the suites have? Microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, hair dryers tvs and games. No I don't think it was because of one employee's mini-fridge.
Perhaps the novelty of kids running to a community bathroom down the hall wore off. Personally, I like it...since there were guys AND gals living on the floors.

It is about time. The Rotunda was nasty in 1980.. Spiders, stairs and the smell were all bad back then. Good riddence to bad rubbish!
In 2004 I was picking up extra hours cleaning rooms when the park was closed during the week for halloweekends. I decided to run up the rotunda and maybe I was hearing things but it was probibly employees in there.
And that jumping from the 5th floor on linens sounds really fun!

At one time there was an entire wing of the hotel that was a dedicated womens dorm. That was back in the days when the men's and women's housing were segregated. As I recall, it was torn down in the late 80's, early 90's. This was the reason The Breakers lost their National Historic Landmark status.

I think when I was at the point I saw a room that they used to live in. Really nasty place if you ask me. I would not want to live in a room like that. They were PRETTY bad
I have stayed at HB a few times. But now I prefer Lighthouse Point's "newness". Living at HB would be freaky, to say the least.
