So I got to thinking a little bit. Over the years lines for rides do shrink. What were the lines for rides like back in the 80's and 70's? Ive always wonder if the Gemini ever had queue line out side of where it is today. Thanks for your help

I was there for the first year of Magnum. I remember the queue being full everytime we went by it. We finally got in line around 9ish and that was our last ride, due to the park closing for the night. This was in early June, and the mayflies were everywhere. Everyone, including myself, smoking a lot in line to keep the bugs away.
Gemini didn't have any other permanent queueing that I remember, but in 1979 they had temporary queueing in front of the ride entrance and the line snaked from that to where Monster is now. I only remember that line because Gemini was my first major roller Coaster. If my memory serves right I don't think we waited over an hour for Gemini that year, thanks to the monster capacity of the 6 train operation at that time.
For Magnum they used to have queueing set up behind the restroom towards Corkscrew, not sure if that's still there or not. If I remember correctly waiting in all queueing for Magnum was like a 1.5 to 2 hour wait.
Blue Streak's queue set-up was completely different before Raptor was built. The queing was in front of the ride and at times the line went to the main midway.
Milinneum Force used to have queuein set up on that concrete pad close to the train on the other side of the turn-around before the brake run.
My Mom and Dad have pics of Corkscrews line in 1976 that was using portable queueing and the line snaked to the main midway.
No pics, but they tell me Mine Ride's line in 1972 had no temporary queueing, but the line snaked around the fence by the second lift hill towards the railroad tracks. My parents tell me even with the line that long they waited no longer than an hour thanks to I think the 5 train operation it had at that time.
I personally waited in a line for Mean Streak in it's opening year that snaked outside of the queueing area to the railroad tracks.
My parents also tell me that the lines for sky ride and frontier lift were quite long most of the time it seemed.
My parents have been going to CP since 1970, and to this day they are true ride warriors. With both of them being in their mid 60's they have each ridden more then 250 coasters Worldwide, and they both seem tireless when visiting a amusement park.
It's weird to think that when I went to Cedar Point as a kid the only coasters there were Wildcat, Gemini, Mine Ride, Blue Streak, Avalanche Run, and Corkscrew (and Junior Gemini).
Anyone remember Demon Drop's line when it came out? That was wild.
True, there is more to do in some sense, but there is much less to do as a family as well. Now I'm so picky I won;t wait more than 20 minutes. :)

Thanks for the info corkscrew follies. I always wondered what that queuing behind the restrooms by magnum was used for and the concrete area by millenium. It's hard to believe all that used to be used
Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
Avalanche Run with all the interior queue filled plus temporary queue.
White Water Landing with a very long line.

I really wish more people here could have witnessed AR. In many ways it was so far superior to Disaster Transport, and still would be today.

I remember the line configuration of Gemini being slightly different in the 1980's and early to mid 90's the queue is still in its current place but it would split to allow you to board either from the back of the train as you do now and it also had an option to go straight and board from the front of the train. I am hoping memory is not serving me wrong on this but it is a very vivid memory
Also Iron Dragon in the late 80's its current queue was ALWAYS full and it had alot of temporary set up on the midway. and the one that came as a surprise to me was Troika when it was over across from cork screw it had a line much longer than I would expect for a ride of its type.
I may be mispelling things. I am falling asleep and now heading to bed.
Back in "the day", Mine Ride always had a constant flow, but man did that line fly. It seems like the timing was just perfect.

^Granted this was before all the over safety devices that are on these coasters now. Heck, Corkscrew used to run 3 trains without stacking 2 of them at the station.
Neglegence, if memory serves me correct, I remember the queue for Gemini using that setup on my first visit to the park in 2003. I don't recall if it was like that again in 2004 or not, but I'm pretty sure I saw the line with the choice to board either the front or back of the train at least once.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
^The choice to enter the front or back of Gemini's station did exist well into the 2000's... I seem to remember it being closed off in 2004 or 2005 (which coincided with the removal of the 5 and 6 trains if I remember correctly).
Girl: "l want to ride that yellow one again... Twisted Wicker"
Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."
I can remember waiting 45 minutes, an hour or even longer for Blue Streak. Line stretched back into the park with the queue being along the front right of the station (near the rocket ride that was where the Calypso is now). It was the first "real" coaster I rode. Mine Ride was more of a kiddie coaster (height requirement for it was lower?). You had to be 60" to ride Jumbo Jet which didn't have any restraints at all.
I remember using all of the Magnum twisties with very long lines its first couple of years. I also remember long lines for Demon Drop its first year (45 mins to an hour). Mean Streak twisties were used early on as well.
They didn't put up all of the queues not to use them so if a ride has them, they were used at one point. My son always is amazed that we waited in long lines back then for so many rides that are walk ups or 10 mins waits now. But at the time, those rides were the biggest/best in the park.
I suspect that the lines all moved faster back then because they were not checking restraints/lapbars and few of the rides had seatbelts and you were not required to use the belts on the few rides that did.
I remember waiting through all of of Magnum's main block of switchbacks, sometime back around 1994, but I've never seen the line extend into those long auxiliary lines that are to your right as you enter the line. Can anyone recall the last time those saw any use?
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
Thinking about Magnum lines brings back some old memories of still how long the line was for Corkscrew. At some point in the season they installed temporary line down the walkway heading towards Corkscrew and added a few for Corkscrew's line with signs above naming the coaster line you wanted.
Also that year and my visit to the park was caught up in a middle of a people jam in that area. With a two huge groups heading at each other. Remember the CP Police and the workers had to help untangle the mess.
I havent been there during peak season in the past few years so I am not sure if they still do it but during the late 90's and early to mid 2000's they had DJ's in the line areas of certain coasters, Raptor, Magnum, ML, and Mean Streak all had them for sure. Not sure if they still do this now.
Also Magnums expanded wait areas were in use in 09 during the early season. I remember seeing it while walking in from Breakers. I was very surprised to see it. That was one day CP acknowledged it was far busier than expected
It wouldn't be very Negligent of me to spell my name correctly.
I think Raptor and MF still occasionally have DJ's. The others haven't had a DJ in a few years.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
O yeah, When Mantis first opened its entrance was located directly across from ML and on the same side as ML, it had its own little train crossing. I believe it was reconfigured to what it is now in 2000.
