I was at the park the last weekend in July and had a confrontation with line jumpers. My wife and I were in line for Maverick and had been in line for about 30 minutes when two late teen's early 20's boys decided that they would take it upon themselves to join their friends who were just in front of me. I confronted them and advised that they line jumped and need to go to the back of the line like everyone else. When this happened all heck broke loose and I had the 2 kids and about 4 of their friends in my face saying how dare I disrespect them by confronting them. Luckily there was a Cedar Point Employee in the line who witnessed this and called security to have them removed.
I have some questions that I would like some input on.
1. What does Cedar Point do to line jumpers?
2. What didn't the other 100 or so people who also witnesed this say anything as the kids passed them in line?
3. What do the line jumpers think as they are jumping in line?

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it.
Piss on it and walk away.
1 - removal from line at a minimum. Depending on their attitude, it can mean removal from the park with no refund.
2 - Its the whole non-confrontational thing. Most people don't want to disturb the crowd, so therefore they say nothing.
3 - That they are entitled to do what they want.
As a note, ValleyFair had the worst line-jumping when I was there in June of 2006. Although, it was a "school" day, so it was a bunch of unsupervised kids running around the park. I did (hopefully) ruin a kids day by blocking him from cutting through the SV line.
Kings Island a couple weeks ago was not bad. I think I noticed only one instance at IJ:ST but with all the empty queue, they didn't have to walk past anyone, to get to their friends spot. And actually, one of them was a guy right in front of us who left line and came back.

You can't back down, your in a queue with like 6.8 billion people. I am 21, us young 20 something punks think we own it all especially if we have a group of friends.
Get your cell phone out immediately and have your spouse / girlfriend contact SANDUSKY POLICE without hesitation calling 911 on the spot. Saying your in CP and you confronted line jumpers that is turning in to a possible assault on one of your persons. If you feel threatened by someone like its going to lead to an assault / argument / who cares in a park like that it shouldn't have any problems.
Why didn't the other people say anything? Because they don't have the balls to cause a problem and look like the a sore looser.
I would probably just remain on the phone.
Any problems the police can sort out, and young 20 something year olds quiver when we hear police. Whats he going to do? Throw your phone and break it? Okay...looks like he just agreed to buy you a new phone, assault you? Looks like he might be suggesting he would like a hospital bill too.
Beat your ass in a queue full of witnesses......haha.
The line jumpers think that probably "saving a spot" is okay. Its when someone is so stupid they actually believe their own stupidity.
It takes stupidity to do that, but it takes a higher level of stupidity and balls to think your going to cut in a CP line and get away with it.
It's the mentality that if you can dream it, you can achieve it, you can fly to the moon and be an astronaut kind of stuff your parents teach you. No your not that special in the grand scheme of things, and you don't get front of the line access either buckaroo. Kids think they are invincible now until they run in to a parked tree at 70mph.
I think CP should have "prop people" to get in trouble to teach lessons to all. People who work for the park, but "act like guests". For instance, have the person PURPOSELY cut in front of EVERY major line, and then within minutes have CP police come and pull the CP prop person out of the line. If they did this through the day in every single major ride line......many people would go...wow they have police actually going in the queues.
You could also do these kinds of things to stop people from smoking in line.
It is just showing there presence is known. Soon as we entered Ohio I remember seconds later we saw a Ohio State trooper parked in the middle. People were speeding...but you get the point....we weren't after this. *** Edited 8/13/2007 3:47:44 PM UTC by factory81***
^ Just to be clear, I wouldn't advise calling the police for just a case of line jumping. I'm sure a CP employee could handle that. However, once assult comes into the mix, by all means, call the police.
Also, I really like your idea on staging line jumpers getting pulled out of line. I think that would get guests to think twice before doing something stupid.
Actually, if you keep the CP Police number in your phone, you can call them to report line-jumpers.
That IS what they are there for.
I know the payphone 911's are re-routed to the CP switchboard, but my best guess would be that a cell phone will be routed to the County board. And I doubt they want to be troubled with your line-jumper.
And I'm pretty sure if I ask nicely, Ben will be around soon to post the CP security number.
Goodbye MrScott
John
The employee that called had no idea how to reach the CP Police and actually had to call the reservations number and was transfered to the Police number.
The great thing was that it was the first ride of the day and I think they were all ejected from the park.
I also witnessed CP's Finest take down a teenager who jumped the fence at Maverick after seeing someones wallet go flying. There was about $1300.00(according to the owner) in cash flying. The person actually jumped the chain link fence by the smoking area at the exit of Maverick and was grabbing cash. The owner of the wallet actually made it off of the ride, found security and had them at the spot before the kid came out of the fenced in area.
All I could think was " Bad Boys Bad Boys what u gonna do" as the CP police cuffed the kid and took him away to the protest of his parents.
It is good to see fools getting busted acting stupidly.

Maybe his parents should have protested his initial fence jump. :)
^no kidding. Makes you wonder if they were angry that he was clearly disobeying park rules, or excited to get the money themselves.

I am going to guess it was that they didn't get the money. They didn't look like the most honest of people as they were being escorted away screaming and swearing and I bet they will not be retuning any time soon to Cedar Point.

Does Sandusky have any parental responsibility laws?
i.e. If your kid is caught being a criminal, you're liable as well.

What in the world is a kid doing with $1300.00 in his wallet, makes me wonder where it came from, and why is he carring all that lute hmmm
It was the fathers and they were a family of 5 at CP for 4 days. It would be easy to spend that in 4 days.

If you call 911 on a cell and say Hi can I be routed to Cedar Point police I am sure they won't complain as they are a police force hehe. But I would feel like I am abusing the 911 EMERGENCY system.
I am sure they have a fair share of people call and do that. I am not going to try and do a 75 cent 411 directory call on the spot to get results :)
I am guilty of being overly retarded with liquid cash. I just keep obscene amounts in cash because the ATM machines with $2 charges, and then I am not looking for a place to buy something to get cash back on a debit card person. I feel fortunate that I happened to pick pants with zippers on them. Praise Jebus for zippers. If I had $1300 on me though (which would be rare as I don't even need that much at cedar point) I would definitely do something total tourist style and buy them travelers cheques with insurance f on them. My parents used to do that for vacations, and it would be economical. I too even dream of the day I will just accept the ATM machine and live by a plastic card.
If the force of the roller coaster is so strong the zipper gave way, then it must of been meant to be. *** Edited 8/14/2007 2:57:10 PM UTC by factory81***
factory81, there is a middle way in all of this. Get a credit card with no fees and with the intention of never paying a cent of interest, and then use it whenever possible. That way when the bill comes once a month all you need to do is write one check and you're done.
Good point Touchdown, if only everyone could have the willpower to pay it off completely every month, but many people see that minimum payment and think about having a little extra money in their pocket, and BAM!! the interest rates bend you over and give it to you!
If you can control it, it works very well for vacationing. On my last CP trip, I made sure my card was paid off and put the entire trip on it...room, tickets, gas, food, etc. After the trip was over my statement let me know my entire trip cost without keeping track of cash spent here and there or sorting through receipt after receipt after receipt.
**Before someone calls me on it...this post was way off topic....sorry...I'm an accountant...I get carried away!!

I was wondering something?....Ok i was in line for a coaster and my cousin stopped to grab a bottled water from the machine which was located in the Que line and I went ahead and kept on walking through the line and stopped when the other people waiting in line stopped. My cousin had his water and proceded to catch up with me passing others in line because the line countinued to move ahead of him....Now is he line jumping just because he stopped to get a bottled water at the que soda machine? Is this a legal move or should I have stopped and waited with him and then went all the way to the end of the line to wait an additional 30 more minuites to ride the coaster? Thanks for any answers on this matter!
When life gets hecktic think Cedar Point!
I would say that what he did IS line jumping.
But you would not have to go all the way to the back. You are already in line, so it should be ok to just continue in the line when he is done. Since he is not cutting past anyone to rejoin the line at the physical point that he left it, that is not line jumping.

If I saw that in line I wouldn't say anything. I think it is fair. It takes like 1 minute to get a water bottle so you would only be passing like 5 people.

^oh come on. In the time it took for his friend to buy water, I bet he went maybe 1/2 of a queue farther. I have no problem with that, but only if his friend bought the water as they were passing the machine. If the kid was pretty far from the machine and went way back to get it, I might have a problem.
