Lighthouse Point Expansion Underway

While leaving the park yesterday from the SC parking lot I noticed that they had a bulldozer and all the grass area was fenced off. I figured that this was all for the new expansion project. I cant wait to see it when its all done.

EDIT: I meant that this was back by the camper village and lighthouse point area. NOT in the SC lot or anything, My bad for not making that clear!

Wow, there getting to work early. Maybe because they have other plans for next year. Just a thought.

Soak City? What? Who said that.... not me, that's for sure.... Expansion? No.... I didn't say that. Hmmmm.....

Lighthouse Point expansion started right after Labor Day. Not too early at all considering they want to be done by May. There's a lot of prep work to do, including a new 425-foot breakwall.

I wonder how much longer Camper Village is going to be around with all the EXPANSION going on around it...

...and the most anticipated event of summer 2003 is...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

The left side of Camper Village is closed for the rest of season due to the construction. The right side wasn't completely full, but pretty full last weekend. Camper Village does quite a bit a business, I doubt we'll see it go anywhere.
It would not surprise me if they decide to completely redo Circle A in the future to allow for all Full Hookups (water, elec, sewer, cable). These generate more revenue.

If that were to happen, I wouldn't be surprised if Circle B is eventually closed to make way for Soak City or Resort expansion. I don't think Sandcastle Suites has much more than 10 years left.

Really? Why exactly are you down on Sandcastle? I mean, they appear to be filling rooms the bulk of the season.

What time does the water show start?

I wouldn't say I am down on Sandcastle. I think it sits on the best piece of property on the Peninsula. And yes, they do fill the rooms.

The problem was with the construction. When Sandcastle was built I don't think the powers-that-be were convinced it was going to prove successful. You need look no further than the fact that it was built in two phases, the second phase going up only after the first proved a success.

While Breakers East and Tower were built to last, they went on the cheap with Sandcastle. Major work has been done over the years including replacing walls/windows because of cheaper materials. It isn't block construction. Walk down a hallway and you can hear the floors creaking under your feet.

I don't have a scoop on this. It is just an educated guess. Picture Breakers Tower sitting where Sandcastle does now. The views would be spectacular.

Will they be adding on alot of land to the end of the peninsula for the expansion, or is the breakwater going to be the only protection?

For our family, this isn't true until the beach at Sandastle becomes usable. (Though we've only stayed at Lighthouse this year so far; has Sandcastle's beach opened back up, or is Breakers still the only beach?)

What would it take to put a beach on the Lighthouse Point side? It would further increase its attraction beyond the nice (albeit small) lodgings.

Ugh! That would look ugly! The best spot on the peninsula having a big concrete tower! I think Breakers Tower is so ugly. They could have made it look nicer than a big concrete tower. Sandcastle suits may not be tall but it looks a lot nicer on the tip of the peninsula than the Tower would. Why couldn't Breakers Tower have been bult to look like the original Breakers or Breakers East?

OK, it wouldn't have to look exactly like the Tower, but I do agree strongly with the Chief. That is one fine piece of real estate, and while I did enjoy my stay at Sandcastle this year, it did feel a little, um, dated ...

More important, as far as CF's bottom line goes, there just ain't enough rooms per square foot of that prime land. The Suites have a large footprint, and three stories may not be enough to mazimize revenue - which is what this is all about. Huge coasters are great for marketing, and they sure appeal to the thrill-addict crowd, but the real edge CP has over most parks is they are a resort. Get the families in, get them to stay for more than a day, pay for the room(s), dinner at their restaurants, etc, etc.

'Course, maybe there's enough room back there for a whole new property in addition to Sandcastle. If I was CEO of CF, I'd have one mantra for the long-term: "Build rooms until we run out of space, and then find more space to build some more."

Who are you trying to impress with the look of whatever might be built on that peninsula? The only people who are going to be able to see the tower, or can see Sandcastle now, are the riders on Magnum (and maybe MF). People across the bay aren't going to care. Boaters I suppose?

spewey was right. It is about guest rooms. I would be willing to bet that Kinzel and gang are wishing they would have built Breakers East more than 4 stories high. If/When Bon Aire is replaced I believe it would be a tall structure as well.

I don't know about a beach on the Lighthouse Point side. My guess is that it would be washed out unless a huge breakwall was extended beyond Breakwater Cafe and I don't see that happening.

Edited b/c I am an idiot sometimes.

Well, they are building a 425-foot breakwall along the shoreline to provide erosion protection for the expansion. It would seem to be, though, a difficult and expensive process to create a useable beach in that location.

For us, the amenities of the Lighthouse Point cottages make up for having to go all the way to Breakers for the beach.

Hey, at least the folks at Lighthouse Point have a pool nearby. Camper Village people used to have to sneak into the Sandcastle pool or be relegated to the beach themselves. That was a milestone for the campers.
