lighthouse point cabin vs cottage?

is there much of a difference between the LHP cabins + cottages? i see from the cp website descriptions that the bed situations are different, but they both accommodate 6 people, is there really much difference between them aside from that?

also, if there are two cars of people heading to share a single cabin or cottage, im assuming only one of them gets the parking refund? what if both cars are staying 2 nights, does the car that paid to park have to pay again the next day, even though they might not leave the park?

Both cars can get refunds. You go much more than 2 or 3 cars though, and you might not be able to get the refund.

I've not stayed in the cottages, but the cabins are perfect for our group (mostly 20 somethings). The 2 futons are much more useful than a set of bunk beds.

The cabins have a "loft" which you could sleep people on an air mattress or sleeping bag. So, you could squeeze more than six people in there. But, I wouldn't recommend it. They're not really all that big to start with.

You are refunded TWO parking passes for the length of your stay. That's it. If you have three cars, one has to pay the fee and not get it back. You get a piece of paper that has the length of your stay on it so you can enter and exit the point as much as you want during your stay. You won't have to pay again.

But can you get as many passes as you need for your stay? So if me and some friends are meeting down there separately, and we're bringing 4 vehicles, we can get 2 refunds, but get 4 passes for our cars.

The loft is nice. Provides some alternative sleeping area.

Here is why the Cottage is by far the better pick: The stunning water view you get on your own private deck with really comfortable adirondack chairs. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Sandusky, or on CP property, now that I have experienced the cottages. None of the cabins have a water view, and I mean you are right on the water.

If you have to sleep six, it may be a tight fit, but i bet the cabins also are a tight fit for six. Seriously, if you are already spending the money, spend a few extra bucks and get the cottages. Did I mention the cabins don't have a water view. Not one of them.

That cabins very comfortably sleep 6 (and more).

I have stayed in both a cottage and a cabin. I liked them both but if you are looking to have more room you should defiantly go with the cabin. With the loft and everything you get alot more room. But like said before the cottages have the water view which is amazing!

If you are bringing any more than TWO cars, you will have to pay for them. They will only refund you $18 in parking.

Where is Mr Scott, the mayor, he knows all about it lol.

He is still trying to find out where the water will be involved on Maverick.

If you have more than two cars, park the excess at Castaway Bay. I'm sure that may annoy them, but how would they know?

The biggest feature of the cottages is simply that every one of them is on the lake, or technically the bay.

We stayed at LHP two weeks ago. The cabin we had seemed larger than it really was. There would have been plenty of room for more people. Living space is tight, but the sleeping space may hold 8-10 if you use the loft. We had a small problum though. My wife got up the first morning to find a mouse had gotten in our son's diper bag. In that time the mouse ate the changing mat, the insides of the bag, a bottle nipple, chewed socks and left droppings in the bag. We got to looking around and found other items that had bben chewed and other droppings in the cabin. We moved to Sand Castle that morning. I did not think much about it until we found the chewings in the bag. My wife will not stay in a Cottage or Cabin ever agin.

That's unfortunate.

Hopefully she'll change her mind in the future. Its really the best way to go when you have a larger group.

The cabin layout feels more spacious, in part thanks to the loft, and in part because the bedroom has only a bed, and not the bed+bunk beds.

The cottage settings are much nicer.

We've got grade-school kids, and like stuffing them up in the loft for a rest/the night, as it gives us more room. Plus, we don't have to fight about who gets the top bunk.

If it weren't for the kids, I'd go cottage for the bay views.

Will be there on columbus weekend in a cottage ,anybody else,gosh i hope the weather is better than last year, with 50mph winds all weekend last year it was miserable and cold, crossing my fingers for this year :-)

Cabin=Families, Cottage=Large Group

PS: It can be harder to cook on the grill at the cottages due to the lake wind.

Also, if you're going early or late in the season, the cottage is going to be a bit colder than the cabin. So much so that you may not even be able to enjoy your nice water view.

Then he could save a lot of money, seeing as how he's crazy and would be just as comfy sleeping outside.
