lax or by the book?

I have never used the locker, nor will I ever have the need to. I absolutly HATE carrying anything around unless I have to. I avoid carrying anything not only when I'm at a park, but when I'm doing other things too. Then again, most people don't think of little things like this, and probably don't even care

Here's a revolutionary idea: don't bring anything into the park, ride the rides, then play the games at the end of your day so you can just carry the items you win back to your car when you're done. No hassle, no lockers, no problem.

I use the lockers mostly when I have the kids in tow. There's a lot of stuff to tote around with small kids, especially if you're bopping between SC and CP. You don't need all of it all of the time; stashing it in the nearest locker beats carrying it around or schlepping it back to the car, and is well worth the buck or three.

If I'm in the park to ride, I don't carry anything that doesn't fit in a securable pocket.

There are two reasons to charge for the lockers. The first is to raise revenue. The second is to balance demand. If lockers were free, it's easy to imagine that they'd all get claimed early in the day, "just in case", by people who don't end up using them for anything.

That would be easily (although expensively) solved by using the SmarteLocker system in use at PKI and IOA. Make the lockers very cheap (or free) for the first little while and then more expensive later. You still get your revenue, you don't have locker hogs, and the Park Ops people are happy.

You're right, these lockers look pretty nifty!
