Launch

Crazy Coaster Guy you are obviously mistaken.

Hypersonic goes from 0 to 82 in 1.8 seconds. That is more then half as fast in less then half the time as Dragster.

The launch is incredible, only rivaled by Dragster in intensity for me. XLC literally feels like you are getting kicked in the chest. Dragster is more intense but just because it lasts for so incredibly long.

To put things in comparison FOF launches from 0 to 54 in about 5 seconds and Volcano's intitial launch is abotu the same.

Few things marvel XLC's launch and top hat, it is just too bad that the rest of the ride is so awful. The entire ride experience is rather poor and unfinished.

Thats right Virginia, I am Santa Claus.

I have ridden both. The Hulk I rode back during the last week of February and I must have went on it like 20 times that day. The Hulk is awesome and fun, however it is totally in a different class than TTD. TTD acceleration is totally off the charts. Just when you think this has got to be the top speed it accelerates even more and more and more and more..... The only way to believe it is to go ride it and you'll know what I'm talking about; that is if you can remember what actually just happened to you after you ride it. It is so fast I was just dropping my jaw and saying to myself WTF was that and the ride was over. Definately have to ride it several times to take it all in.

Dragster really shouldn't be compared to Hulk, as it wasn't intended to be an extremely intense launch. I was wondering how Dragster's launch compares to another real launched coaster like Xcelerater or Hypersonic.

Richard, what'd you do?

i guess you could compare it to HyperSonic XLC, which, by the way, is an amazing coaster Crazy Coaster Guy. 0-80 in 1.8 seconds, my dad was afraid of riding it, so i had to stand in line alone for 2.5 hours! it was AMAZING, just not as amazing as Top Thrill Dragster. ya see, HyperSonic XLC is insantaneous speed, with no acceleration. Top Thrill Dragster is fairly instantaneous, followed up by acceleration to 120. it is THE coaster of the year, if there is such an award...

0-80 in 1.8 seconds? pfff I want to know how 0-107 in 1.8 seconds feels on Dodonpa...that's pretty insane. Dragster's launch isn't the fastest acceleration, but it's intense as hell because of its duration.

The Matrix: Reloaded!

stupid japanese and there crazy coasters! Oh, americans are building super big coaster! we should counterstrike, sensei! build it one Shaq taller then Millennium Force!

Hulk's launch, while nifty, isn't even in the same league.

For this post to begin with the word 'stupid' reaches far beyond ironic.

And the nominees for 'Most Offensive and Insensitive Post' are...

-CO

------------------
The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

CP_bound makes a good point. Simple calculations will tell you that TTD's acceleration is less than both Hypersonic and Dodonpa (and, assuming constant acceleration, pulls less G's), but the reason why TTD is so intense is the duration of the acceleration.

World's first strata-coaster!

Calm down Playa, jeez, overreacting a little there buddy?

It was just a kid having fun while at the same time showing that Cedar Point will make or break the last record by a good 100ft or so, and then everybody else just adds two feet on to that. (Anybody remember MF?)

Even if you are pure Japanese I don't see much hate in that post. Could you not tell that he was just kidding around? Nothing wrong with people having fun while posting here, or is there a rule against that too?

I have ridden the hulk but not TTD but that will change in July. The Hulk's launch is one of the most unique launches ive been on, but it looks alot less intense that TTD from the video. I can't wait until July 17!!!!!!

------------------
You had better scream now, because at 420 feet no one can hear you!!

Hypersonic and Dragster have similarly intense launches, but for slightly different reasons. Hypersonic's feels like God is playing golf with your head (Fore! *Thwack!*), while Dragster's, well, results in a much higher top speed.

The hulk has a unique launch and overall gives one great ride, but I agree you cant compare it to TTD. Although I havent ridden it yet(counting the days) they just seem to be completely different launch styles. Id rather know how its launch compares to Wicked Twister, Flight of Fear, Rock'n Roller coaster, or XLC.

Side note, on cool launches has anyone ridden Mr. Freeze @ SF Texas? The launch up the final spike when the train has lost all energy and the Lims kick in to get you to the top is a freaky feeling.

well rail rider its launch can be comapared to nothin ive ever ridden before(rockin roller coaster, wt, etc..) its just on such a higher level than all the other launch coasters. the only way to describe it is... you just have to ride it

Thanks TTD RIDER for the info. I guess Robert Coker over at Thrillride is right when he described it by saying.

"If Hell has thrill rides, this brilliantly evil machine should be one of them."

Freeze WAS my fave launch coaster (until TTD). I love that feeling going up the spike because you feel like your just about stop, and freefall back, when, you just keep going higher and higher because of the LIM's

(Sorry that I am bumping this old thread, but I wanted to post about TTD vs XLC and this is what I found doing a search)

I just got back from a trip to CP and TTD is my number one coaster. However, even though my first ride was a blur, even then I could tell that the launch was not as intense as Hypersonic's. I eventually put my hands up on the TTD launch, but I doubt I ever would on XLC. My question is why did they not shave a second or two off the launch? Can Intamin not do it or are they trying to calm it down a bit for the public? Don't get me wrong, the launch is very intense and way fun, but the S&S coasters are still the most intense launches out there.

I only been on TTD but I couldn't see how any launch on a coaster could be more intense.

CP Coaster Guide

From the stats given, one would think that Hypersonic would have a more intense launch, but having rode both, Hypersonic does not even compete. Sure its intense, but Dragster just blows it away.

Well, With TTD having a "Chrristmas" tree to let riders no when they are about to launch it seems like it would not be as intense as Hypersonic(which i havent ridden)

"Yellow,Yellow,Yellow,Yellow,Yellow,Green" AHHH

Since we are comparing launches again, this ranking should help answer a lot of questions. As you can see TopThrill, there are more intense launches than TTD, but I agree with you - TTD is a good mix of intensity, and duration.

FYI - WT was tough to rank since it really takes two launches to reach the top speed and there are not many stats posted about the time and max speed. You can see that Superman at MM truely is a boring launch - hope this helps.

Dodonpa - 2.71 Gs (107 MPH in 1.8 sec)
Hypersonic - 2.02 Gs - (80 MPH in 1.8 sec)
Xcelerator - 1.62 Gs - (82 MPH in 2.3 sec)
Dragster - 1.36 Gs - (120 MPH in 4 sec) OR 1.56 Gs if launch is 3.5 seconds - -Wicked Twister - 1.31 Gs (72 MPH in 2.5 sec)
Rock n Roll - 0.97 Gs (60 MPH in 2.8 sec)
Hulk - 0.91 Gs (40 MPH in 2.0 sec)
B&R Chiller (SFGA) - 0.79 Gs (70 MPH in 4.0 sec)
Superman: TE (MM) - 0.65 Gs (100 MPH in 7 sec)
Flight of Fear PKI - 0.51 Gs (54 MPH in 4.8 sec)
