Launch

I haven't rode TTD yet, (This will change soon! LOL) but, I have rode IOA's "The Hulk."
I would have to say that that launch is pretty intense! I remember sticking back to my seat and not being able to move or breathe! It was also unexpected , however. I know that it has a 65 max. speed launch, and TTD is just about double of that!
So, ah, if anyone has rode The Hulk and TTD, would you have a comparison? Thanks! AHH!

Actually the Hulk launches from about 5mph to 40mph but I'm not sure about the time but I think it's 4 seconds. The Hulk reaches 65mph at the bottom of the hill after the barrel roll. I've been on the Hulk but not TTD but I think TTD's launch is much stronger.

I haven't been on The Hulk, but it does look pretty intense. The best way I've heard Dragster's acceleration is at the beginning there is no acceleration, just instantaneous speed...then the acceleration builds and builds. It feels like this too.

...and the most anticipated event of summer 2003 is...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

I have been on both rides now. TTD's launch is absolutely more intense than any other launched ride I have ever been on.. IT actually scared me. I cannot wait to ride it some more in order to remember the ride. the first one is still a blur..
I rode Hulk about 2 and a half weeks ago, and Dragster 3 days ago.

The two launches are quite different. With Hulk, you start slow, then instantanious speed, and barely any acceleration.

On Dragster, you start fast, then instantanious speed, and a lot of acceleration.

On Hulk, there isn't much of a surprise because you hear "Warning, whatever level dropping. Warning" Then the guy goes, "Nooooo!"

On Dragster, if you're sitting in the front row (I'm not sure about the other seats because I only sat in the front), you can watch the cable coming towards you and then you can see when it hooks on. You then kick back, and in under 5 seconds you headed for the sky.

On Hulk, you have a basic general idea when it's going to happen.

On Dragster, you sit there for at least 40 seconds knowing you're going to take off any second, so be prepared!

All in all, Dragster's launch is at least 10x better than Hulk.

Hope this helps. :)

WT launch is more intense then the hulk, The hulk launch is slanted upward which makes it feel more intense. Hulk is like 5mph - 40 in 2 some seconds. TTD definatly looks more intense then the hulk..

Haven't ridden Hulk, but I've ridden Dragster, and I really don't know how anything could be more intense than that. If you want to go numbers, Hulk does 40 in around 2-3 seconds, and with my stopwatch I timed Dragster and it took 3.2 seconds for it to reach the end of the launch, at which point it's doing 120. I really don't think Hulk's launch could even compare to Dragster's. About knowing when you're going to launch, I rode in the very back seat and just a little bit before you go you feel the train roll back a little, then you can hear the sled lock onto the ride, and at that point you have a good idea that you're going to launch soon.

Richard, what'd you do?
I've ridden the Hulk and TTD and there IS no comparison in my mind. TTD is so much more intense it's unbelievable.

Dragster really shouldn't be compared to Hulk, as it wasn't intended to be an extremely intense launch. I was wondering how Dragster's launch compares to another real launched coaster like Xcelerater or Hypersonic.

Richard, what'd you do?

mantis man, you timed the launch? First of all, how'd ya do that? Second of all, why'd ya do that?

Its called a watch, and maybe because he felt like it?. When i get on this i want to time the launch. I'm intrested in seeing how fast the launch is.

Maybe you have better things to do while standing in line, but I don't and I happened to be wearing a stop watch. I don't see how this is such a rediculous idea.

Richard, what'd you do?

Well, I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, but first of all, I wanted to enjoy the launch.

Second of all, you didn't answer my first question. HOW did you do that? I had my hands down when the thing rocketed forward and look what happened!

***EDIT*** - Sorry about that! I thought that you meant you timed launch while you were on it! Boy am I tired!

Lol yeah I timed the intervals of the ride (WHILE WAITING IN LINE) and I got 82 seconds, just if anybody's interested.

Boy am I dumb. :/

Just because I used to work at Hulk, I wanted to give more exact numbers for the launch. It launches from about 5 to 40 in 1.8-2 seconds depending on the heat of the aircraft tires that actually launch the ride. And I am still in Orlando, and won't get to CP until AUGUST 25th! (Man what a long wait.)
mantis man.....Hypersonic has NOTHING on TTD. I was a season pass holder at PKD and Hypersonic's launch was soo weak that it would have rollbacks and barely get over the hill and that's only 180 feet! And plus it's 0-80 in 3 secs. which is almost as long as TTD and it gets to 120. Let's just say Hypersonic was the first of it's kind and was really BAD.

But thanks to S&S for doing a poor job, Intamin could put together TTD!!

Correction! I gave Hypersonic the benefit of the Doubt. It's ONLY 165 ft.

Mantis man - I can do the math again, if need be, but off the top of my head, Hypersonic produces 1.8 Gs while TTD produces 1.3 during the launch - they are quite close in terms of G forces. Hypersonc goes 0-80 in 1.8 seconds (FYI) - what sets TTD appart is the speed, and duration of acceleration - so you are right on some levels.

Regarding Hulk - it is not even on the map in terms of G forces during the launch - fun ride without question - but no where near as intense as TTD, Hypersonic, Xcelerator, or Dodonpa.

Tom

OMG there is NO comparison from The Hulk!

I have been on both, and even hypersonic's 0-82mph in 1.8 seconds doesnt even seem to compare with this beast. I am definitely going on it A LOT this year.

woohoo for brain damage! =P

Hypersonic Intense? That is very kind of you Tom. PKD would appreciate that. Outer Limits and Volcanoe at PKD are much more INTENSE than Hypersonic. Believe me.

It's cool to hear about the comparisons with these other launching coasters, but what about the only close competitor Dragster has? Even though it's not a roller coaster, how does the launch on Superman The Escape compare to Dragster? This is a 20 mph difference compare to 40 or 50. What do you guys think? How do you compare the overall thrill Dragster gives compare to Superman?
The bad thing is that over the next few weeks the "tree" lights will be going up so you will know when you launch. I remember in the wee mornings at WT they just launch you no warning lol. Those are good times.
