Labor Day @ The Point

Hi everyone! This is my first post here and I thought I'd highlight my Labor Day trip to the Point. A group of 6 of us got together and drove up from our school, Ohio State University, to spend our last day of the long weekend. We made pretty good timing and arrived in the Sandusky area shortly before 8am, which gave us some time to get breakfast and roam around for awhile. At about 9am, we parked and headed for the gate and began waiting for 10am to come around. They opened the gate surprisingly early today (~9:40am - I always remember them waiting until at least 9:50am) and we headed right for Top Thrill Dragster...Here's the rides we hit today...

Top Thrill Dragster - We jumped right in line and only waited 10 minutes for the front seat. Wow! What a rush, this ride never ceases to amaze me. The launch is incredible and the view from the top, although short lived, is breathtaking. We ended up riding it a second time later in the day and that put my all-time Dragster count at 12. Hopefully next year I can break 20! (10/10)

Power Tower - We backtracked a tad and decided to hit Power Tower. The wait was only 5 minutes for both towers so we did both them both. I prefer the Space Shot but the Drop Tower is equally as thrilling. Still my favorite non-coaster ride in the park! Drop Tower (7/10) Space Shot (8/10)

Corkscrew - The loop is a tad painful but that's probably because I am used to the bigger, smoother loops on Mantis and other B&Ms. The crew was dispating ultra-fast which made the wait less than 2 minutes. I still love this ride. (7/10)

Gemini - This is another classic that I can never seem to get enough of. Both sides were running well and the crew was great. The ride was smooth as always (even around the ending helix) and I got massive airtime. Still a great ride... (8/10)

Mean Streak - Ouch! (4/10)

Millennium Force - Just like Dragster, we got 2 rides on this one. Our first ride was in the front car of the Red train and it was great. Second ride came in the back seat of the Blue train. I love the view from the top and that first drop is something else. There is no question in my book why this coaster was ranked #1 in the Golden Ticket Awards this year. I've been on S: ROS and there is NO comparison. (10/10)

Iron Dragon - Same old, same old. The new paint scheme is quite interesting. It screams "McDonalds!", but I can see why they made it so bright. Probably trying to blend in with it's neighbor. (6/10)

** At this point we headed over to Macaroni's for some lunch/early dinner/whatever. Good service and good food highlighted that. Our stomachs were nice and full as we headed over to Wicked Twister but it was down. Too bad because I really love that ride.

Disaster Transport - We waited a little long for this ride but there were people in my group who had never been on and insisted we ride. I don't know why it's even there. I guess it's a good coaster for kids just trying to get over that fear of roller coasters but wow... (3/10)

Raptor - Long line (~50 minutes) but we waited anyway. This ride still packs a punch and it remains as my #2 B&M Inverted Coaster (only slightly behind Talon @ Dorney). The trims were turned off which is something I'm not really used to. Have they been turned off all year? I don't remember them being turned off last October which was my last visit to the Point. Anyways, great ride. (9/10)

Blue Streak - Still a classic wooden coaster with excellent air time. (8/10)

Mantis - Long wait, as usual, but what do you expect on Labor Day? The ride was normal, just as I always remember it. Pretty smooth but a bit rough through some of the inversions. Still the best stand-up I've ever been on. (7/10)

Magnum XL 200 - This ride has become a real rough-up. I almost don't want to ride it anymore when I go to the park because it's becoming so rough. It's still a great ride but jese does it hurt. 4 of the 6 of us had minor to major headaches after this ride. Thank God we made it our last ride of the day. (5/10)

** We left the park around 7pm. Overall it was a great day, great weather, great service, and great rides. I hope to get back sometime this fall for Halloweekends, but we'll see how the school work is coming along...

Sounds Like your group of six had a good time up there. What was the longest line and the sortest line. I would have thought that on Labor Day the crowds wouldn't have been there. I do agree with you on Disaster Trasport, the first time I rode it I was like, that is it, what a short ride for the long (45 or 60) min wait. And even the 2 year of riding Top Thrill Dragster it still is a fun and thirlling coaster.

My count

Dragster - 5
Force - 8
Mantis - 8
Raptor - 13

I was there today also and the LONGEST line I had was TTD 30 mins. MF was 25 mins, everything else was a walk-on for us.
I was there to on labor day its never that busy there and the longest wait was about 2-4 mins.
I drove up from Atlanta with a friend on Saturday night/Sunday morning to get my fix. Other than that annoying speeding ticket in Livingston, the drive up was fine. We got to CP around noon on Sunday and got started. The lines weren't too bad (except for TDD and MF). Most of them were less than 30 minutes.

Monday was amazing. Hardly any lines, and many walk-ons. We still waited for over an hour for MF (both times). TDD was a little less (~30 - 40 minutes), but we waited the extra time for the front row. Here's the breakdown of what we did over the course of both days:

TDD - 5 (4 front row, 1 back car front row)
MF - 4 (1 front row, 3 back row)
Raptor - 3
Wicked Twister - 3
Gemini - 3
Magnum - 2
Power Tower - 1 up, 3 down
Corkscrew - 1
Iron Dragon - 1
Wild Cat - 1
Mantis - 1

I'm so glad that we decided to make the trip. It was a great weekend at CP! The weather was amazing and the quality of the rides was superb. I'm still in awe of the back row of MF at night. There is something about being pulled down that hill in the dark that gets me every time! We made that our last ride before getting on the road and driving back. We timed it perfectly - we were in the back row on the last full train to dispatch. It was almost completely dark - flawless ride! Next time I want to get a night ride on TDD.

Next trip to CP... possibly Coastermania. :)
