The last time I had Gold Star (at the mall, mind you) I didn't like it. Their beef isn't boiled down as fine as Skyline, or something. I dunno.
The one I always liked was Empress Chili, but I don't even know if they're still in business.
A lot of locals swear by Camp Washington on Colerain. I've never had the pleasure, though.
Edit: There is still Empress. Btw, it was the original Cincinnati chili, established in 1922.
There's a certain suspension of belief with both places. One is better than another, IMO.
I find Pinks tasty enough, but it's clearly some southern Californian's idea of a chili dog. The dog itself is good, the sauce is just alright, but who would lay a Kraft slice on top and call it cheese? They do have good rings.
I'll admit: years ago, my (very indulgent) parents took me to Kings Island. During the trip, we decided to check out Skylne chili and were completely confused by it.
But years later my then boyfriend had me try it again, and I liked it. Is it chili? Not exactly. Is it delicious? Yep. I have a recipe and occasionally make it at home.
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.
Skyline Chili is really good. I first learned of it when I was a junior in high school and my family went to kings island that summer. Now eveytime I am at Walmart, I always buy a couple packs of original recipe & a couple packs of the spaghetti chili. The nice part about getting it from Walmart is it's frozen. Pop in the the micro, and 7 minutes later, add some shredded cheddar cheese (optional) and you have yourself a good meal. Grab a coke to go with it :) also pinks is really good. Most people probably don't like it cause it's different (pinks hotdog rexture) but that's the fun of it trying something new. I remember the first time I tried pinks I didn't know what to expect, but I really like it. Of course we all have our own opinion, but there's my 2 cents. I also get Aky Line Chilinag Great American Ballpark when at the baseball game, LET'S GO RED LEGS!!!!

I would like to point out that you're going during Knott's Boysenberry Festival, so there will be plenty of food for you to eat all over the park (maybe snag a Fun Bun if you're up for a tasty treat). Definitely stop by Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant before you leave, as it's a staple and where it all started. As far as attractions, you'll want to hit up the classics like Calico Mine Ride, Timber Mountain Log Ride and Ghostrider (smooth as butter since its re-track). What you do after that is up to you but I definitely agree with everyone telling you to spend two days at Disney and one at Knott's.
