Anyone have any idea why Kings Island doesn't open for the season on weekdays until much later than Cedar Point? They are further south, so one would assume they would at least open at the same time. I'm planning a trip to CP on opening week, and thought I'd get a multi park pass and visit both parks. We don't like to do the parks on weekend days due to the crowds.
Thanks for any info.
Staffing. Cedar Point's workforce is made up of a lot of college students and international employees. Cedar Point also opens in early May, which is conveniently the time most college students get out of school, while high schools are usually in session through the end of May/early June.
Kings Island's workforce, however, is made up of a lot more high schoolers, and thus cannot easily staff the park during weekday hours in April/May.

Thanks for the answer. You would think Cedar Fair would start tapping the college kids at Miami U and U of Cincinnatti so they could get the park open sooner. Oh well......
Well, the Miami University students who really want to work at an amusement park already work at Cedar Point... :)
That, and King's Island has no housing.

Actually, UC is on quarters, so the college kids there aren't finished until June. Seems there are a lot more quarter schools in southern Ohio than in northern Ohio.

I'm actually hoping for revised and extended hours for 2009!! While I enjoy to be in the park "early" when I have my friends children with me, etc...I also enjoy the evenings when I can show up for Starlite Hours, but always wish for them to be much longer. I see the pros and cons of both. With the current economic crisis, who knows "what" CP proposes for this year. In the end, I would like hours to be extended (1.5 hours??). Suggestions? Ideas? Positive comments?
Um, if you haven't noticed, Cedar Point has released its 2009 operating schedule. At this point, if anything gets revised for 09, it will be minor tweaks here and there, such as possibly extending/cutting hours due to attendance. That sort of thing goes on a day-by-day basis, though. What you see now is more than likely what you're going to get this year.
It is being discussed here: http://www.pointbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/23654.aspx
and the hours are available here: http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/visit/schedule/index.cfm
