And do we know for certain that Intamin didn't say "Hey, you guys mind shutting down dragster for a few days while we make sure this won't happen to you?"
I'd find it very hard to believe that if they were asked to that they wouldn't comply. Or wouldn't have shut down on their own just until they find out what really caused it and that it is not a problem on theirs.

When TTD sprayed metal Storm Runner and Xcelerator remained open. The only reason I would think this would be different than a cable snap is this has the potential to hurt someone, which would be a reaosn in my mind to shut other rides like it down. But seeing as other rockets didn't close when TTD hurt people, I see no reason why this would be different.
Vehicels get recalled if problem happen to some of them, i guess the same can go for rides, just as a precaution.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
A cable snap is an expected issue. The rides are actually designed to handle a cable snap, so that the cable doesn't go whipping everywhere.
The catch car trough should not disintegrate and tear up the track, train, brakes and anything else in its way. I would consider this a good reason to close other rides, at least until they can be checked to make sure this wouldn't be an issue on them.

TTD was down, I believe, the day before the accident, and was back up and running on this Thursday.
I would imagine that they took a look at the launch track on Dragster as a precaution while it was already down, but didn't close it solely because of the accident. As it is now back operating again, I'm assuming everything checked out ok.
On a lighter note, while waiting in line for TTD Thursday night we had a great time joking about how we had the tallest and fastest "operating" roller coaster in the world. :}

I figured this was wasn't worth starting a new topic for, but per a Six Flags Official Announcement ( http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/index.asp ), Kingda Ka is currently testing with plans to reopen soon. Now, if we could hear the full story about what happened :P

Uh, there is a full story, at like every coaster website online. Something about the liner.
Sorry, I can't tell if your smiley is supposed to mean sarcasm.
Just to tell everyone occording to xtemecoasters, Kingda Ka is closed down for the year. SFGA is shipping a part that cost millions of dollars from Europe. TTD is doing better than KK.
Can you post the link? I have not been able to find this on the site. Was this just rumor in the forums?
Of course TTD is doing better than KK!
KK has only been "operating" for 3 months and Dragster's been operating since 03.
And I believe that rumor is false. They wouldn't be testing if they still needed parts. Plus, the testing info came straight from the park relations lady and witness accounts.
Here's the most recent news (for anyone who cares): http://xtremecoasters.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=1782
This was short lived. ;) *** Edited 7/26/2005 3:36:43 AM UTC by TTD 120mph***

Except for the fact that KK has already been seen testing consistently and is expected to be open in the comming week(s).
The Xtremecoasters report has been proven false.
That site I think is run by attention whores. Read the actual news, it'll be open sooner than later.

"CF doesn't own Great Adventure, so if KK doesn't get fixed, CP is going to laugh and rub this in their faces."
That statement is just assinine. I seriously doubt any of the people at CP are laughing about this incident. Someone could have seriously been injured. Maybe they didn't close Dragster due to KK problems, but I guarantee that they looked at TTD to make sure the same thing won't happen to them. There is no war between execs at SF and CF, so no one is rubbing anything in anyone's faces.
I'm pretty sure the reason they took Dragster down for a couple days was because of what happened with Kingda Ka, and the park didn't want to take any chances.
Hey, wasn't this thread originally in the Dragster forum, or am I imagining things?

I thought Dragster closed a day or two before the Kingda Ka incident.

The state of New Jersey will be inspecting KK and they are set to reopen it in the next couple days if all goes good with the state. I will be going to ride it in the begining of September but everything i have heard about it is it is a rough ride.
