Kids first trip Aug 20 and 21

This is my first post ever. I have monitored this site for years and had things to say but just didn’t. I finally got to the park for the first time in over 5 years and just had to add my story. The main reason for not getting to the park for that long is two fold. First, had kids, now 7 and 11, and because of the kids the wife added a little weight and was embarrassed on Millennium the last time there. Now she has recently lost the weight and the kids are tall enough to ride everything. So off we went to my favorite place.

The kids have been to Michigan’s Adventure and had been broken in on the thrill of coasters and we had also talked to them about and showed them picture of the park so they kind of knew what to expect. But you can only talk and show picture so much, when they actually seen the park for the first time it was priceless. My daughter (11) said she would never ride anything that went upside down only about 3 months ago, but has recently got over some other fears and said that she was ready to try. We walked into Soak City entrance and the first thing they seen was obviously Magnum. So we went there first, their first steal coaster and their first real taste of Cedar Point. When we got off and the first thing out of their mouths was can we ride it again, my wife commented that we “just created coaster monsters”. She wasn’t kidding, we rode Magnum again and then it was off to Cork Screw for my daughter’s first upside down experience. That went as expected after Magnums two rides. Dad can we do it again? We did and then it was off the Maverick. This would be all of are first time and it was worth the 1 hour wait. What a great ride. I did learn quickly to keep the hands down though as proven by the bruises on my arms from the shoulder restraints. I won’t bore you all with every detail there after but the highlights were we got on every coaster but Twister, BS, and CCMR. Good thing we had a second day to make those up. We did get a big enough rain shower to evac most of the park about 8:00 the first night. So we were able to get a very good meal at Midway Market, wait the rain out and had time to walk it off through Frontier Trail on our way back to Maverick to shut the park down for the day. By the way the lights in Frontier Trail were very nice.

Had the Ride and Slide tickets so the first thing we did was wake up on Maverick, Millennium, and Skyhawk (Kids and I loved it, but the wife did not). Then it was off to Soak City for a relaxing float in the lazy river and some slow but fun sliding. Of course the kids were all over this as well. Wife and I mostly watched them do what they wanted. It must have been around 3 when a pretty big thunderstorm rolled through and took about half of the crowd with it. At about 5 the kids were pretty much waterlogged and hungry so it was off to the Van for dinner and then some more coasters. With the majority of the crowd gone it was short lines on almost everything. We got in all of the stuff we missed on the first day. My son(7) and I gone 4 laps on Millennium and the wife and daughter went off to Raptor for 7 laps. With only a 15 – 20 minute wait my son wanted to try the front seat on our last lap. It had just got dark when we finally got on and it was like riding on the outside of the windshield driving 90 MPH in the most bug infested forest you could imagine. When we got off the ride we met the wife and daughter at the exit and they could not stop laughing. I could have used a tooth pick at the time. After getting cleaned up, it was through Frontier Trail for the lights again and back to maverick to shut the park down again. 3 more rides there before we got kicked off for the season pass holders event.

The theme of the week was to ride things that the kids could not see or do at the county fairs. They never even asked to ride the spin and pucks which was good by me and the wife. It was an experience that I will never forget and I think my kids will not as well. But they are already talking about next year.

Thanks for reading,

Todd

Just a suggestion......a little white space makes for easier reading.

Please remain in your seat until the ride comes to a complete and final stop.

Jeez, people love to critisice others around here. Welcome to Point Buzz! lol.

Sounds like you guys had a great trip! It's good to hear that your kids loved the coasters. :) I have a 3 year old who I hope some day loves them like your kids do.

While I havn't experienced my son's first coaster yet, I have helped my sister and best friend fall in love with them. It is a great feeling to watch someone ride a coaster for the first time, and end up loving it.

How was MidWay Market? I have heard some mixed reviews around here.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

Midway Market in my opinion was okay, a little expensive ($62+ for four), but we are not picky eaters. They did have a large variety of food and deserts. The rostebeff was pretty dry but there were plenty of other choices to pick from. There were a lot of deserts but most were colored whipped creams and other light fluffy stuff. Looked good but not much in the Grandma’s home made style of desert.

I remember my daughter being tall enough to ride the Magnum at 5 yrs. old. One of my favorite memories. Now she is 16 and is a fan of Cedar Point as much as me. It's not summer or Halloween without a visit. Hopefully, we will be making our way there late Sept.

Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. It's great to get the kids started young----I always said that my daughter will not be one of those kids who are terrified to ride because their parents won't let them until they get older......once you're tall enough, you're going on!
