Kiddy Kingdom

I'm thinking that Kiddy Kingdom is ready for a makeover. If the decision was up to you, how would you theme the current Kiddy Kingdom? Or would you even change it all?

I realize the park has Camp Snoopy, which I think is a great area, I just feel the Kiddy Kingdom area is, well, a little stale. What does everybody else think?

I actually like the Peanuts Playground area, but if it were up to me, I'd refit KK with new theming and mix in the Peanuts Playground aspect, a fenced area where you can let the kids roam, but at the same time parents can also be interacting with them. I think that some of the Kiddy Kingdom rides would work, just make them fit in with whatever theme there is.

So, put yourself in P&D and tell us what you would do?

I'd keep the same kiddy kingdom themeing but for for more or less the look at PKI. I like the PKI kiddy area.

Honestly they should take it out and put a coaster there, but since they're going for the family park idea, that obviously won't happen. ;) I would like to see them rip out KK and fill in the area with another type of heavily-themed Camp Snoopy, with a variety of toddler, young children and even teen rides. CP needs to show us that they really do know how to theme and DT was just an accident. I agree that the area is stale. It needs updating, and you can find better rides at a local carnival. We took my 4 year old nephew to KK and he was not thrilled at all sitting in a little car going 3 mph in a circle.

Good topic. I love Camp Snoopy for the kids and agree that Kiddy Kingdom is outdated. I would keep the theming to the Peanuts characters... "A Charlie Brown _________?" But first things first, Peanuts Playground should go.

I say stop testing kids for epilepsy with all those flashing lights and retire those silly, noisy canopied rides. In fact, raze the whole area for...ready for this? SPIKE'S OASIS (Spike was Snoopy's mustachioed, desert-dwelling brother). It could be themed with faux catci and maybe even sand. It could include an L-shaped family out-and-back woodie (the SandStorm), a refurbished and freshened Rub-A-Dub-Tubs (the Watering Hole), a small Safari Adventure, a Safari Circle, a themed mini tea cup, a themed ferris wheel and whatever else will fit. Better yet (from CF's POV), it makes a good excuse to sell themed sombreros, gifts and a food stand to sell all sorts of southwestern grub.

Of course, this will probably never happen..because those 13 grubby rides pad CP's ride total to 68. Sigh.

Kiddy Kingdom is a little shabby but I don't think they have to abandon it. A little landscaping and some attractive fences, and perhaps brick (or brick-like) paving woould really brighten the area up.

I do like the sound of a junior woodie through.

The Kiddy Kingdom carousel is my favorite carousel at Cedar Point -- this was even true before they got rid of the Frontier carousel (sniff). It should be the centerpiece of the area, but instead it is looking pretty tired. I think a refurbishment of the carousel would be an important step in any KK improvement plan.
Some of the carousel horses have been re-done this winter.. Not sure if they were the KK ones or not though..

I like the Spike's Oasis idea. They already have something like the Safari Adventure ride, it's an off road truck ride with independently moving trucks just like the Zamperla ride (don't know who made CP's ride).

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.

Yeah, Spike's Oasis is pretty cool. Like Pete said, the 4x4s could be part of it as well. The Gemini Children's Area already has a couple of small circulars, so I think Kiddy Kingdom could spare the loss.

I also think the carousel should be the center piece, perhaps move it away from the building. Some of the trees are already creating a problem for the area, something is going to have to be done, why they're at it, they should spice it up a little.

Out of curiosity, does anybody have a price range of the Zamperla rides mentioned above?

Kiddy Kingdom's themeing made a lot more sense when Sir Kids's Court (was that what it was called?) was there. The ball pool there was my favorite attraction when I was little!

It was Kid Arthur's Court. I was sad to KAC go. A lot of childhood memories there. Something tells me I have a KAC coloring book. Now if I could only find it ...

I loved KAC. I would always make my parents take me there. I loved that ball pool too. I think that was the best kiddy place I remember from when I was a kid.

I personally never cared much for KAC (why play in a ball pit and climb ropes when there are more interesting rides around?) but we have a great picture of my sister when she burst into tears after getting stuck in the nets!

everything's better with a banjo
I loved KAC when I was young. I was one who loved the net. I have a very distinct memory of while climbing it, my mom was walking beside me (not on the net, of course:)). My dad and grandparents were walking a little behind her.

I love Waterville!
Cedar Point, the cure for the Summertime blues!

My mom never let me on there because she said I would get hurt...this was when I was only tall enough to ride 3 coasters! :(

Uhhh..because kids love that stuff?

I also mourn the loss of VF's KAC equivalent...but only a little because that's where our PT stands now. But my kids loved it. Better yet for visiting families, it wears the kids out so they'll take a nap in the wagon later on.

Anyone ever seen BGT's Land of the Dragons? It had the tallest, longest and most involved complex of those net-thingies I've ever seen. If I wasn't in such a hurry to ride Gwazi, I would have climbed up and around myself....much like nearly every grownup there anyway.

Yeah, kids love that stuff but it isn't hard to come by.

I could go on a jungle jim whenever I wanted at my local park but I couldn't take a circular ride in a moon buggy with 6 steering wheels down at the schoolyard.

Maybe that's why I loved it so much. I grew up a few minutes from CP. It was the 'local' park :)

My view has always been, since people dump their kids there anyway, put a fence around it. Give the kids and the parents wristbands with the same numbers on each, and then, only the person with the matching wristband could take the child out. Don't ban parents though. I like the current 'theme' so put castle walls around the area. Maybe bring back some Kids Arts aspects. I know this may raise liability issues. Put a couple security gaurds in there, there are already some anyway, and let the parents know that the employees only reponsibility, besides safety, is to make sure the kids leave with the right people. Parents would have to go in to find there kids, but be checked at the gate before leaving. Kind of like Discovery Zone. :)
