Just curious, not nosey

OK, here is something I've been wondering about. CP pay....

I have heard things like once you make it to 1000 hours or the middle of August or something, you get a decent sized bonus or a raise or something.

I once knew a gal a few years ago that worked there and was saying something about red tagged employees and blue tagged employees and she was supposed to get a couple thousand dollar bonus in August or something.

Also, how old do you have to be to work there? I have a teenaged daughter and even though I know CP works their employees to death, I think it's a great job to save money, because you don't ever have any time to spend it!

Also, what kind of breaks, if any, do they get?

I think CP employees are great. I know they work really really hard. I always remind my kids to treat them all with respect and be polite, as I am sure the employees put up with a lot of crap from others.

Any info would be appreciated. My daughter will be at that age soon!!

I work at geauga lake, and its pretty similar to how things are run at cedar point, so I may be able to answer some of your questions.

They have a bonus program, if you work until the end date of your contract, you get $0.50 for every hour you worked. They do this so that at the end of the season, all the employees wont quit, becuase they know that they have a couple hundred bucks waiting for them if they stay. I dont htink you get a raise once you reach 1000 hours though. In the past years, the bonus used to be $1.00 for every hour, but since they raised the base rates due to the minimum wage, they lowered the bonus. Emloyees actually make $0.10 more this year, than they would have last year with the bonus.

Employees get ID bages, which aslo serve as name tags. The front of the tags are different colors which symbolize age. Yellow-14/15 year old, Green-16/17 year old, Red-18+. Blue tags are for Assistant Team Leads, Team Leads, or Supervisors. They basically have this system, so they know what age an employee is just by looking at them, so they can stay in compliance with minor labor laws.

I think you only have to be 15 to work there. They probably wont hire many 15 year olds, if she is 16/17, she would have a better chance of getting hired. I dont think Cedar Point hires that many minors though.

Since shes a minor she cant work 5 or more hours without a full 30 minute break. I think they require all employees to take breaks, i know its that way at Geauga Lake.

If shes 16 or older, she should be prepared to work long hours, at Geauga Lake, I usually work 13 hour shifts. Its a fun job (most of the time), and gives you the opportunity to meet many new people. *** Edited 7/5/2007 1:16:21 PM UTC by thevillain***

Employees have to be 18 to live in housing. So unless you live in Sandusky, that pretty much keeps her from working there before 18.

Thanks for all the tips.

Speaking of housing, how does that work? Do they get any kind of reduced "rent" if they work at CP and live in housing? Does CP take it directly out of their check?

My sister had a friend many years ago that worked the Corkscrew (when it was new) at CP. She never lived in housing; she commuted from Toledo (well, Rossford, but same thing).

They do charge rent, which varies based on what building you live in. The on-point dorms are something around $16 a week, but they have no AC, no heat, and haven't been renovated since the 1920's. The dorms off-point with AC are around $34 a week I believe. I don't know what the apartments cost. The rent is directly taken out of the employee's paycheck.

Apartments are $24/wk. and only have air conditioning in the main room. Bayside is pretty much just supervisors and Castaway employees, whereas Commons Apartments are pretty much open to everyone.

Isn't neon/light green 16, and forest/dark green 17?

Its Light Green for the 14/15

Dark Green for 16/17

Red for 18 and over

Blue is for the people you do not want to mess with (Supervisors and such)

And yes Ceder Point hires LOTS of minors and if you want proof just come to my location. I also believe that comment on Bayside because both of my supers are roomates with each other there.

My question is what job do you put a 14 year old at?

Admissions. There might be a couple of other jobs they can do too. They are only allowed to work a few hours a week, and have to get off at a fairly early time. I don't know the specifics.

At the lake 14/15 is a Yellow Tag...

This year we have a 50 cent bonus instead of a dollar so most peoples bonus are very cmall. MIne this year is around 550 i think and i work on a big ride. I think by not having the dollar bonus that made it easy for a lot of people to quit because it wasnt worth it to stay.

You have to be 18 or 17 and graduated from highschool to work at cedar point

BReaks depend on what shift you work....

0-8(people who leave when breaks are done) get a 45 and 30

O-C you get two 45 minutes

130-C 45 and 15

1130-C 45 and 30

SPL-30

O-6 45 and 15

Thank you for beong nice to us we appreciate it.

Working at Cedar Point is quite the experience. I've only been gone for 2 weeks and I miss it deeply. You see the park from a whole different standpoint when you work there every day. The hours are long and the work is tough.

One thing to keep in mind is that it is a job. Just like every job you get as a college student, it's what you make of it.

You meet a lot of interesting people and you make a lot of friends from all of the world. I never would have thought I would make new friends from Ecuador, Twain, and United Kingdom. Let only the rest of the Americans you meet.

It was a lot of fun, even though it was a job I still liked working, it depends on what you do. I got to deal with guests all the time so I thought that was fun, and it was easy. I would definitely work there again next summer, but I won't be able to because of school and my major.. and I do need a job that pays more too! I miss my friends :(

I did it for two years and it's one of the greatest things I did with my life.

At Michigan's Adventure 14-17 are yellow tags and 18-up are green tags, they are just called minors and majors. Minors can run small rides like the kiddie rides, and can check lap bars on coasters but can't run the big rides, majors can do all the minors work and run coasters, operate the train, and run the flats in the "desert". Don't really know why I'm telling you all this, it's off topic, but I'm bored.

I'm only 2 days removed from processing out and I miss it dearly already. And this is after busy and stressful Halloweekend work days.

I will say not everyone can do this job. You have to be ready to put in long hours, and deal with authority. If you have an open mind and a willingness to work however, you can go far at Cedar Point.

The day Kingda Ka closes will be the greatest day in the history of Existence

It definitely isn't for everyone, but you can assimilate/acclimate/whatever the heck the proper word may be, to the job and working conditions. I know that I can't imagine a better summer job than working at Cedar Point after this past summer. Its something really special that you only truly understand after working there.

There's a lot more to working at the park that meets the eye when you're just visiting the park. Even for those who go all the time. The long hours will drain you, but at the end of each day when you pass out on your not so comfortable mattress, you're happy to be working there.

I loved working at Cedar Point. I remeber getting up at 7am going to work and then getting back to the dorm around 12 midnight and doing at all over.

I loved my bonus at the end of the season!!!!

I will do it all over again
