Just a "minor" question...

I was wondering...if you are a minor (as in under the age of 18) do you still work the 60+ hours a week? I know that there are minor labor laws, because I am a minor and I have a job in Ohio. But I heard that they do not have to pay for overtime, so does Cedar Point still have to comply with the max of 40 hrs/week (I beleive that is the law for everwhere else)?

If you are 14 or 15 in the state of Ohio you are limited to 18 hours during the school year and 40 hours when school is not in session. There are also limits on the # of hours per day and the time of day you can work.

If you are 16 or 17 the only limitations on your work week are during the school year when you are not allowed to work after 11:00pm on any day preceeding a school day. During the summer there are basically no limitations on the number of hours that you can work or the number of hours per day you can have.

Cedar Point falls into a special category because of the type of industry they are in and the fact that employees are seasonal. As a result they do not have to pay overtime to most employees. They do however have to obey all other labor laws. Cedar Point is very careful to comply with all minor labor laws and strictly enforces them with all minor employees.

I thought that CP would be very strict about it. The place I work at is very strict about when I clock in and out. I believe if a minor clocks out late (by working more then 5 consecutive hours without a break or after 11 P.M) the place of employment receives a fine of 100 dollars for every minute. I do not think that this is checked by the state very often, but I do beleve it happens.
