June 8th, 2008... Great day but a bad fudge shop experience

We got there about 10:20 just after the park opened and I knew it was going to turn out to be a good last minute trip because the parking lot was empty. They were parking cars only the 2nd row back from where the buses park. I quickly got my platinum pass, there was nobody in line except for me.

My friend has never been on rollercoasters before so when we got in raptor was the first one we passed so we decided to start with that. Line said half hour, we waited maybe 20 minutes. Good ride, same as always.

She didn't mind the ride so we headed over to Wicked Twister, one of my favourites. No wait. We didn't even have to wait for the train to finish a ride, as we got up it was unloading the train and the gates were open so we hopped on. Literally a walk on. Good ride, one of my favourites of the day. My friend said it took about 5 years off her life.

Hopped in line for Maxair, it had technical difficulties the turn before ours woud have been and my friend decided she didn't want to go on something that was having problems so we got out of line. I never went back to see if it was working later in the day, did anyone else go yesterday and notice?

After that was disaster transport. She wanted to try it. At least it felt like the A/C was working this year. Next was Corkscrew, she hated it. Iron Dragon, then Scrambler.

By this point she was not enjoying the coasters and figured I didn't have much chance to get her to go on much more and I really wanted to make sure I got on Maverick so we took the train to the back. Wait said 3/4, but we got on in about 25 minutes. Was a great ride, but I always have problems with the restraints squeezing my left leg between the restraint and the seat. To the point where it's so tight by the end of the ride it feels like my circulation's being cut off. I had coin indents on my leg (from the money in my pocket) for a half hour after. Anyone else have this problem?

We hit up Thunder Canyon. Barely got wet the first time. As we were trying to get off our rusty old seatbelt wouldn't come undone. The guy rolled his eyes at us like we were stupid and jumped in, tried to do it himself. He still couldn't get it undone and saw we were getting close to the end of the spinning platform so he jumped off and was like "Guess you're going again." This time we got drenched and our seatbelt came apart fine. Guess it just needed some water on it or something, lol.

We ate after that. Cheese pizza and pop for $11 something. Cheese pizza may I point out that we could barely find the cheese on. Loaded with way too much sauce and had no taste, and didn't really taste like the dough was thoroughly cooked. Oh well, guess that's what you expect.

Mine ride after that, then I hit up some solo rides because she was done for the day after Maverick.

Skyhawk - seemed like there were more swing cycles this year. Walk on.

Mean Streak - walk on, good smooth ride this time. Love this one, one of my favourites.

Magnum - 2 train wait.

PowerTower (drop) - walk on... one of my favourite rides in the park.

Millenium - 10 minute wait, great ride.

She wanted to go back on Iron Dragon so we did and then went to get fudge. The girl working had no idea how to speak english and didn't know what fudge was what. I could tell what most the flavours were, but there's a few that were similar and I wanted to know what they were. I asked what they were and she rattled off the prices to me. I asked again and she said the prices again. After she told me the price of a pound I wanted to make sure that you get a 1/2 pound free with the purchase of a pound (the sign said that) and she looks at me and goes "what free mean?" I decided to go back to my original question about the fudge and pointed this time and she runs and gets a paper and tries to tell me it was cookies and cream which it wasn't because that one was 2 to the left. So I tell her no and she looks again and again says cookies and cream. I say no, and she tells me the prices again. By now I've given up and walk out. So, Cedar Fair lost my $15 or so because I wasn't buying fudge if I didn't know what it was. Here's a thought... if your employees can't speak or understand english, maybe put sign holder in front of the fudge tell you what is what so customers can figure it out themselves or don't have them working alone.

Took 1 more ride on mean streak... it was mean this time, but still enjoyable. It was 5pm so we decided to leave before the rain the weather was calling for. The only other thing I wanted to go on was TTD but it stopped running half way through the day. I'm assuming because it was very windy yesterday, but if anyone knows otherwise please tell. It started pouring about 40 minutes into our drive home.

Overall summary: Great day, small lines (25 minutes was the longest for Maverick). Rode everything I wanted to in less than 6 hours. Food service was very slow, and my pizza tasted awful. And the fudge really made me angry, I really wanted some. Yeah, I could have still bought it because I knew what most of the stuff was, but the girl was irritating me and I had a feeling if I got the full pound she wasn't going to understand to give me my half pound free and I wasn't going to go through that conversation with her too.

Anyone else visit yesterday?

Your not the first to complain about the pizza or the Maverick restraints coming down too far on to your legs. I am like "get me off this rideee my legs!"

We went to Michigans Adventure yesterday expecting higher temps but those wicked storms brought in a cold front which made the water park not enjoyable. Than Thunderhawk wasn't even running so we couldn't try the SLC headbanger.

I wish we would have went to the point. Especially since oil is looking to top $140 a barrel which will bring on $4.20 gas prices or higher.

I take it your friend didn't care Maverick either?

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

She didn't mind it, but by that point she had had enough.

Bummer, I love my friends I was with yesterday, but I could have ridden stuff much more, but they were ready to go, I didn't fight it because I can go back anytime. It's just hard to find people that love the coasters as much as I do.....

Your'e first mistake was taking her on WT. I think that ride is alright, but it's not the best to me. And if someone is iffy on coasters, don't take them on that one. At least not until she worked her way up to it. You should have taken her on MF first. Because anyone who rides MF usually ends up loving it, and then they think they can conquer anything.

I made the mistake of taking my sis (who didn't like coasters) on Magnum first, and she hated it!! So it took us all day long to work our way up to MF, and then she loved it...so we should have done that one first. lol.

I thought the food service was VERY slow when we went too. Not only was it slow, but like you said...a lot of the employees couldn't really speak english. Which I wouldn't care. But when I'm in a hurry because I only have so much time at CP, I don't feel like waiting a 1/2 for a refill on my pop. lol.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

We started my friend on MF and it didn't work so well. I think it's all about the person. She was really nervous about any ride before that so, it might not have worked out regardless of what we took her on first. It's just hard to completely enjoy the rides when you know your friend is sitting on the bench the whole day.

I also hope the food service gets better as time goes on, the park was practically dead yesterday and it took forever to get food, I can't imagine how many people will be mad waiting that long on a Saturday in July. It's not completely the language barrier, alot them just seem easily distracted and unable to prioritize their tasks.

For me at the fudge shop it was a language barrier. If you're job is to sell fudge you should know what fudge is what. You should also know what the word "free" means if you're supposed to be giving away a "free" 1/2 pound with the purchase of every pound.

Also another thing I forgot in my original post that I wanted to mention was the fact that all coasters I was on the ride ops were leaving a lot of seats empty. I'm not talking about the cars that were closed on the ride, but single rider seats. They weren't asking for single riders at all. And I saw on raptor a group of 2 guys who got on and sat in the middle 2 seats. The ride ops let them ride like that without asking them to move over so 2 riders could fit on. Seems like a lot of wasted space and later in the summer when it gets busy could mean quicker ride times if the ops aren't having to waste time shutting the restraints on all the open cars.

^ I noticed that too.

Did you roll your eyes at the ride op on Thunder Canyon when he couldn't undo the seat belt like he did to you? Hee.
