June 6th- Maverick+An Amazing Day.

I went to the park yesterday, and let me say everything was great. It looked great, the employees were friendly, and the weather was perfect (60 all day). I got to the park and immediatley ran to Maverick. When i heard people saying Maverick was better than MF, I thought "well im sure its really good and is probly gonna be second on my list, but nothing could top MF". I was wrong. VERY wrong.

I can't believe how much of a punch this small coaster packs. The first hill is so weird curling in on that 95 degree drop, and that twisted Horseshoe roll is perfectly engineered. Im usually not a fan of inversions, but as Jeff said, those two inversions are like upside down airtime. Speeking of airtime, i feel this coaster has the perfect type, and amount. It's like a mix between MF's floater air and Magnums ejector air. It really does a great job of getting you out of your seat, but it does so in the smoothest way possible. And that tunnel is fantastic. Really just a great ride. I know everyone bashes Intamin for there problems but, personaly, I've been more than pleased with every Intamin CP has put in. They are all world class coasters and to be honest, I dont mind their occasional problems because the rides make up for it. I tip my hat to Cp, and i can't wait to see how Maverick ranks in the Golden Ticket. And I'll just add that Maverick is the best ride to look at. The atmosphere of the line and the station are great. (to me, at night, it almost looks like a pirate town)

So anyways, after Maverick, we grabbed rides on Gemini and Magnum. I only have two complaints in this TR and here's one of them; They NEED to do something about Magnums station. It is so backed up and congested. I know its been like this for while but this year I finaly realized i just hate it. It's so unorganized and makes it difficult to find a seat line. The ride kinda made up for it though, as Magnum is always great. After Magnum we headed back to the pavillion for some food, then went to Raptor, Millenium Force, and Power Tower. We took another rest and then headed for Dragster. Usually, I'll wait for front seat on Dragster but this time, I just thought "I just wanna get on the ride and be done with it". It may sound stupid, but after riding Maverick, getting front seat on Dragster didn't matter to me at all.

So after Dragster we headed to Maverick again. We got to the line and it was down, so we decided to take a ride on Mean Streak. It was the best ride I've ever taken on it. Really, you just need to know how to ride it. If you hang on and stay loose you'll really enjoy yourself. If you tense up then it just seems like hell. So after Mean Streak we noticed Maverick was up again so we caught another ride on that. For Maverick, I'll always wait for the front. The station is organized so well that theres never a long line for the front. I REALLY hope that it stays that way. So after Maverick we headed over to Skyhawk and here's where my other complaint comes in. It takes way too long to load that ride. I know its probly been discussed and I know i can't do anything about it, but it seems like it should not take that long to get a ride going.

After Skyhawk we took a nice walk on the Frontier Trail and went to Maxair. Short wait, great ride as always. After that we figured we'd relax a bit and have some coffee and donuts. It was relaxing, and a great way to start to end the night. After that we figured "Maverick rules lets face it, we'll catch one more ride on that before we go". So we get in line and it breaks down immediatley. We waited about an hour in line (which wasnt bad because i love when the crowd in the line all bands together and sings and dances, in our case it was the wave. We had one going through the entire line). Heres what i found amazingly courteous that I've never seen them do before. They informed us Maverick would not open for the rest of the night. But then they said "Everyone head over to MF and go up the exit" I found this amazing. At that time it was 11:30, and hour and a half after the park closed and they allowed us to do this. I thought it was great and definetly made up for not being able to ride Maverick again.

So all in all 12 rides, great crowds, great weather, great day. It hasn't stopped being the best park on the planet. *** Edited 6/7/2007 1:53:18 PM UTC by Fat Man Tarkey***

Great trip report!

I agree with your comment on Magnum's station! It's a major traffic jam in there! Did magnum have anyone in it's queue?

I'm guessing that Skyhawk's load time is slow because the operators have to push every lapbar in and also make sure all the belt clips are fastened. With all those seats it takes awhile. *** Edited 6/7/2007 2:38:40 PM UTC by delphi94***

Magnums queue was just on the stairs and in the station. I'm sure if they took the time to organize the station, alot more of the turnstyles would fill up. Plus, we happened to pick a line where the seats were taped off on one of the trains, so that meant we had to wait double time.

Just push someone out of the way when that happens.

Tarkey, great report thank you! I can not wait to experience Maverick myself.

Regarding your experience at the end of the day with Maverick/MF - I had a similar situation with TTD it's first year. The ride broke at 10:45 with the park closing at 11 PM. They allowed us to wait outside the que till 12:30 AM, when they got it back up an running. At 1:45 AM I was on TTD.

Between our two experiences imo, this is what makes CP the best park in the world. Exceptional customer service and exceptional rides with Intamin imo.

Nice report. I rode Maverick 3 times and so far, I think the front is the best.

I think that Magnums station should be similar to the way MF is set up..thats madness in there..but anyways..nice trip.

I also noticed this on my latest trip. It seemed like the Skyhawk Ops weren't very excited to be there. When I went to CP in 2006, the Skyhawk Ops were running down the rows and pushing down all the lap bars very quickly. This year the Ops acted like pushing in all the lap bars and checking the belts was a chore that they didn't want to do so they were doing it slowlly and with resentment. Sounds like a great trip besides that and Magnum's station (It needs work, but at least they were running 2 trains. When we went there were running 1 train because of the accident and it moved extremely slowly.)
