Being a season pass holder has offered me so much freedom this year and I love it!. Three friends and I got to the park around 6, to be greeted by ominous storm clouds. It started raining almost as soon as we got in the park. We tried to get a quick Magnum ride in but right when we got to the entrance it went down for weather.
We carried on and went the train station by MF and we got on and took 2 laps in the pouring rain until it starting thundering and we had to get off at the Funway Station. When we got off we made a run for it and took shelter at Dragon's Inn where we would wait it out. I was hoping that it would be a quick storm that would clear the park out and offer plentiful rides later, but it lasted very long. After being at Dragon's Inn for almost 2 hours we gave up and ran to the car. We went to the hotel room, put on dry clothes, and decided to go out for dinner. As we walked to the car we realized the rain had cleared up. Back to the park we went for one hour of riding. We went straight to Maverick. It was a first Maverick ride for all of us. To our surprise and benefit it was a walk on! We were all so psyched. My first ride was in the back on Beau. That ride was followed by 3 others, I got on the last train of the night.
Maverick is excellent and goes above and beyond all of my expectations. The 95 degree drop was a fun new experience. The ride was so smooth and I loved all of the twists and turns. The launch in the tunnel was fun and the lights inside of it are very neat. The water bombs were working when we rode and they look great. Riding it at night was so much fun. We left the park around 10:20 and went to TGI Fridays at Breakers but they only had appitizers and drinks after 10, so we went to McDonalds instead. That McDonalds right off the Causeway is the slowest one I've ever been to in my life. Everytime I'm there the service is horrible.
This morning we were up and got to the park around 9:20 to find that not much was running. I saw Raptor was going as we drove past but Millennium and Skyhawk were empty and still. We went back to Maverick because we saw an empty train go. We got in line (which was down the midway near the Shooting Gallery). Fortunately soon after we got in line the trains were filled and Maverick was beginning her day. It took us about half an hour to get onto the front seat. Man I love this ride. Riding during daylight and darkness are completely different experiences.
Next up we headed up to Millennium which had about a 20 minute wait. It was about 10:30 and it was very hot and humid. I hadn't waited that long for Millie in a long time. Either way, it was fun. After that we hopped on Mantis for a quick ride.
After that my three friends brought up the fact that they hadn't been on Dragster yet this year so she was our next choice. It only took half an hour with no rollbacks or breakdowns. Magnum was up next. I was very glad to see it running 2 trains, the line (only in the station) moved nicely. We wanted to ride Paddlewheel Excursions after that but it was closed to we raced on Gemini instead. We went guys against girls, guys in blue girls in red. It was one of the closest races ever, I'm not sure who won. It was a fun walkon ride.
We went to Frontier Town after that and got some food. I took a solo ride on Mean Streak while the others munched on some nachos. The station was almost empty and I saw that John Hildebrandt was in the ride op booth. It was very rough ride. As I rode I saw those ominous storm clouds again so when I got off the ride I got back to my friends and we got to the Frontier Town train station just as it started to down pour. The operator announced that it was down for weather. We waited around for about 20 minutes and looked around in the once again Emporium and when the rain slowed down we went back to the car and left for Castaway Bay.
Being a season pass holder, single day passes were only $15 and that's a great deal! It was our first time there and we all loved it. Rendezvous Run was really fun and the slides were great. We spent about 2 hours there, went to TGI Fridays for dinner, and headed home.
All in all, it was a great trip. Even though we only spent about 6 hours in the park and never went to the front of the park past Iron Dragon between 2 days, it was productive. Maverick is awesome and I had a fun time at Castaway Bay. Here's to many more visits to the park this season.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
So... I see you at the Dragons Inn during the downpour, and you never got past Iron Dragon towards the front... our trips sound so similar!
