Our trip began as we entered the park at 10:00 AM on 6-21 following an all night drive across the state of NY from Agawam, MA. You coaster geeks know what is located there and we had a great time riding it. The plan was to be at CP for ERT at 9:00 but we just didn’t make it due to a variety of factors. Once the gates were opened at 10:00 however we followed the herd to Millie. We has just finished riding the proposed # 1 ride in the world and wanted to see how the real # 1 ride matched up. Very well I might add. We had ridden Millie four times the year before (we are from GA and can only make it here once per year) but never on the front. We waited the extra time for the front and (I know everyone has a story like this) as soon as we were next it begins raining. The ride was shut down for an approximate 30 minute wait. We waited and got our ride and both agreed it was worth it. However, by this time it was close to 11:15 and we were exhausted. We decided on some grub from the main street market.
Following lunch the park was becoming crowded as most of the rides were opening back up. We hung around the front of the park and looked for something with short lines since we were still tired and didn’t really feel like waiting a lot. Wicked Twister was a walk on so we got 3 straight rides on it. We then waited on maxair through a couple of cycles and headed over to Blue Streak. We got one ride there and then moved back toward the front. I stopped at guest relations to see if our room at breakers was ready. They said they needed another hour or so so we jumped in the raptor line which had dwindled. We knew we had the time to wait so we got a front seat ride there after about 25 minutes. We then headed to disaster transport which always breaks when we get in line for it. This time it didn’t break but a huge storm blew up shutting down everything. As we exited it we noticed troika was running in the pouring down rain. We jumped on it but it was shut down before the ride cycle started. Oh well. This was a good time to go check in our room. As we walked to guest relations they were running demon drop so we jumped on it with no wait. Ouch for us!
After checking in and using part of the 180 dollars in gift certificates we had for Fridays, we discussed our two options: sleep or ride till we passed out. We were at cedar point so there were no options….ride on!!!
We went in the special entrance and got on Maggie after about a 10 minute wait. We then moved down the back of the park and knocked out Gemini, Woodstock express (we each missed it last year) and mean streak twice. Watching the mean streak pov makes it look like an awesome coaster. Its just not however. We got a very rough ride near the front so we gave it another shot in the middle. A little better but it still leaves me wondering what happened. We then eased over and rode skyhawk after a short wait and then I couldn’t take it anymore. We had the ert on maverick later that night as joe cool members but I had to try it once immediately. We waited approximately 45 minutes (the line does move quickly) and then got on the third row on Bart. What happened next was the beating of my life. We were tired, already had headaches and took an enormous beating. I took the two hardest shots to my neck from the restraints I ever have on any coaster in my life. My friend (who is a bigger coaster nerd than I am…he introduced me to cedar point) refused to get on it again at that time and was debating about even coming back for the joe cool time. I agreed but told him I thought I had discovered a better way to ride towards the last half. I raised my arms out and put my elbows back against the seat. I then put my hands in the restraints and pushed out. The restraints then flattened against my chest and neck a little better (we are both about 5-11 and weigh about 160) this made for less neck banging. I thought it worked. He was very skeptical but said he would think about it.
We headed back to maggie and got three quick laps there. We were really tired so I suggested TTD. We needed an adrenaline rush and got it there. We waited about 20 minutes and then got on the second row. That was the ride that got us through. We then jumped in the corkscrew line (another walk-on) and rode it. It was about 945 and we wanted to ride Maggie at night since we missed it then last year so we dove back into line and got the best ride of our two days. The ride ops had roped off about half the train so we got on the second car first row. As we reached the pretzel turnaround the trim breaks failed to kick in and what resulted was the reason why I believe this is the # 3 ranked coaster in the world. The ride back over the airtime hills was absolutely insane!!! It was my favorite ride of the day and we were pumped as we headed back over to maverick for our joe cool time.
We were glad we went. Thanks to tony for providing a great atmosphere and handling a slight prob for me. The ride ops were unbelievable (expecially the guy at the front screaming “Fill the empty seats!!!”.)
They were running all 6 trains so fast that at one point they had to stop and let the motors down below “catch up”…whatever that means. We got 4 rides in an hour including two front seat rides. We both agreed that my new riding technique paid off as there was no neck banging at all. Maverick at night was a great experience and thanks to everyone who made it possible. Following our ride time we were adrenaline pumped and ready to ride more but alas…nothing was open. We got some great pics on the way out and then crashed at the hotel room.
Day 2: I’ll try to shorten this down as this is getting really long and most of you have probably stopped reading. We were up for our ert and decided to use it on mille this time. We skipped breakfast and headed down frontier trail from the breakers entrance for our favorite ride. We got three quick rides before the “herd” entered (j/k). We also grayed out all three times going around the overbanked turn and decided some food might be in order. First we did our time on mantis (front seat but it still gave me a good headbanging). The ride op was great stating that mantis is without a doubt the longest, tallest, and fastest stand-up coaster at Cedar Point!!! No argument there. We then rode wildcat since the lines get long there as the day progresses. We even got a quick one in on what my friend calls the Diaper Ride..aka Iron Dragon. He claims the bags in between the cars are diapers that catch whatever gunk may be dripping out of the hydraulics. All suspended coasters have them and I suspect he may be right. We eased back up frontier trail and were amazed to notice that sky hawk was running half empty cycles!!! We got two walk on rides on it and then jumped in the line for the mine ride…when we go to cedar point we ride everything! Following the mine ride it was back to Fridays to use the gift cards again. We usually try to eat early so we can ride while other people are eating. After a big lunch we decided that a nap might be in order. We had only slept around 8 hours each in the past three days so we wanted to feel good for our last few hours at CP before taking off to kennywood and kings dominion the next day. We slept till around 5 and then got up ready to ride stuff. We got another ride on Maggie as we entered at the beach entrance. We worked our way down the main midway getting on TTD again after about a 15 minute wait. We then rode the scrambler (yep) and headed up to the front get on raptor. First we got on maxair after about a 10 minute wait and then got on the ride we missed earlier….troika!!!
Then it was back to Raptor before buying some stuff to take back to the families. We rode it and my friend bought the dvd to show his wife and little girls what we looked like screaming like babies. I bought a few snoopy items for my gf who is an elementary teacher and loves all things snoopy!!
We took our items back to the room and headed to millie to finish our night off. We got two night rides on her which finished us up at cedar point for another year.
I think that is everything…our totals are as follows: millie x 6 including 1 front and 1 back, Maggie x 6, maverick x 5 including 2 front, TTD x 2, raptor x 2 including 1 front, wicked twister x 3, mean streak x 2, blue streak x 1, corkscrew x 1, iron dragon x 1, wildcat x 1, Gemini x 1, mine ride x 1, Woodstock x 1, mantis x 1, skyhawk x 3, and maxair x 2. plus the flats we rode!!
All in all a great two days in the park with our longest waits being 45 minutes on maverick the first day, 20 minutes on Woodstock (yep) and a little over 25 for TTD. *** Edited 7/4/2007 1:00:03 AM UTC by shag9004***
