This week I went to visit my mom who lives near Kansas City so I decided to take a little trip to Worlds of Fun to see how it compares to Cedar Point.
First off, I was expecting some kind of complication with my cedar point platinum pass, either with parking or getting into the park itself, but I had no problems at all which started my day off good.
In terms of rides, worlds of fun obviously is lacking, but I knew that going into the park. Here's a comparison to a few rides resembling CP rides:
Mamba to Magnum: The ride is pretty much similar except for the pretzel loop, Mamba has 2 laps of circles instead. And no tunnels. I do have to say the ride is a lot smoother than Magnum. I had to laugh at their "one of the tallest, fastest, longest rollercoasters in the world" spiel though.
Patriot to Raptor: The ride was fairly similar, but there were too many twists and turns for me to remember exactly how close of a ride it is to raptor. One thing I liked better about it though is I only hit my head on the restraints once, where as raptor i leave feeling like I have a concussion sometimes. Lot more smooth of a ride.
Timber wolf would be most similar to mean streak only not nearly as tall or long. Not too much smoother and near the end of the ride the train barely made it up the last hill and I thought for sure it wasn't going to make it around the corner to go back down the other side. I've had that feeling on rollercoasters before but this is the first time I absolutely thought it wasn't going to make it back to the station.
Spinning Dragons to Wildcat: The ride was basically the same except for the fact that the cars spun around, kinda like the spinning teapots at disneyland. You sat 2 forward, 2 backward to start the ride and the rest of the ride you had no idea where you were because you were spinning all over the place. It was fun. I don't usually like wildcat, but I went on this twice.
That's about it for rides worth mentioning. Here's a few other things I noticed while there that Cedar Fair was either lacking or doing well there compared to CP:
Ride Times: Very poor. While the park wasn't overly crowded, there were enough people there and they only had 1 train running on each rollercoaster. So while the line doesn't look that long, imagine getting in line for Magnum (Mamba's twin) and seeing 4 trains of people in front of you. You think, 5 minute wait, right? Try 25-30 minutes. They should have at least 2 trains running. 1 on the track while the other is getting loaded/unloaded. It was like this every ride. Mamba, Patriot, and Timber Wolf. Disappointing.
Food: Better. I had pizza which I had 2 weeks ago at CP and these were my findings. At CP it was like $7 for a small round cheese pizza (that I could barely find the cheese on mind you). World of fun I got a gigantic slice that I couldn't even finish eating, was roughly I'd say about 1 1/2 of the round ones from CP that was smothered in cheese for $4.50. Pop prices, burgers, everything else was similar. They have a Cinnabon there though, I want one of those at CP!!
Food Service: Excellent. The staff was friendly and quick. Food was hot and ready and served in a timely manner. If Cedar Fair can manage to have good food service at one park, hopefully they can somehow transfer that to a second park at some time in the future!
Well, that's all I can think to comment on at the moment. If anyone else has been there before or can think of something I may have left out commenting on let me know!
The real comparision should be between WoF and Dorney. They are ride for ride, almost exact clones. Dorney has Hydra, which WoF has nothing similar (and I guess D has Laser while W has Boomerang) but other than that they are sister parks in the most literal sense of the word.
