July 4th Anybody?

I've never been up to the Po!nt on July 4th and was thinking of heading up there. I figure it's usually very busy and things can get nuts as well. Is it worth making an evening trip down there for the fireworks and ride a couple of rides? For those who have been to CP on 7-4 in the past, some info would be appreciated. Thank you....

The pics from past July 4th fireworks on this site look great!

I've made it a tradition to visit CP on the 4th of July. It tends to be crowded but you can still make it an enjoyable experience and the fireworks display is pretty decent. Avoid TGIF On The Beach after the fireworks show, it's a madhouse, but I know I'll end up at the bar anyway :)

The Amazement Park

The park itself is generally about as busy as a busy Saturday in July or August. The evening is when it gets bad. Everyone from Sandusky comes to the peninsula to see the fireworks. It's taken me as long as 2 hours to get out of the parking lot and off the Causeway in the past.

I may be up there. I haven't decided yet, and it may be too late since I don't have any reservations anywhere.

Jen and I will be there, probably staying at the Maples. :)

It appears as if I will be going on July 4th. From what I remember from a few years ago, crowds weren't too bad. Although, one day I waited 5 hours for TTD because of breakdowns and rain.

DBCP,

You won't have to deal with a 2 hour trek to get out of the park if you stay at Lighthouse Point. Just take the shuttle (or walk) back to your cabin. 99.9% chance it's too late for that this year, but there is always next year.

I went in 1989, it was real hot and real crowded. Id love to go be at my favorite place on Independance Day, but with the crowds...I'll pass.

Ironically, Mr. Scott, last year we did stay at Lighthouse Point... :) This year I won't be staying there though; just going home at the end of the day... :(

I think I will have to pass. I've got some repairs to make to my truck, and probably won't be able to afford $3.09 gas to make the trip. Money's tight the past few months.

Where is the best place to catch the fireworks? I'm taking my under 48"-ers tomorrow for a starlight evening of kiddie rides and the fireworks show.

I heard the beach is the best place.. where exactly do they set them off? Right behind Disaster?
