If you stay for fireworks, be prepared for a long traffic jam. We're staying at Campers Village, so no rush. But the road was backed up to Soak City lot after the fireworks.

VERRRRY busy. When I worked at Wicked Twister, I couldn't believe how many bodies I saw on the beach to watch the fireworks at night. Not to mention, it is the day of the year where all queues are open and filled to the max, with a large possibility of the line overflowing onto the midway. The traffic jam is awful that night too. I wish CP would figure out a way to allow traffic to flow better at night
Actually, what would help significantly on the 4th is putting the fireworks back in Sandusky on the bay downtown, rather than on the Point...but that fight has been going on there for decades...
I went to the park on the 4th a few years ago and I was expecting the crowds to be worse than they were. The traffic leaving was VERY bad though. If you are able to, I would suggest staying at one of the on site hotels.
We ALWAYS are there for the 4th. Huge crowds, magnificent fireworks if the weather cooperates. Don't plan on many rides, just a lot of people watching. And don't plan to leave the resort that night. Traffic is a nightmare. We stay at Camper Village, and the traffic jam starts way back there.

Is it worth going to the park on the 4th if you have passes? I've never gone since I've heard how terrible it is. Are the fireworks anything special, or is it a day I should avoid like the plague? As of now I never plan on going on that day, but if people think the fireworks are great and it's worth going, then I might reconsider.

I enjoy heading up there in the evening on the 4th for the Fireworks. But you do have to not expect to leave for a few hours afterwards. The good news is, while everyone else is fighting traffic, the lines usually aren't too bad post-fireworks.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I knew some people that always went on the 4th, they always said it was dead. It made sense to me, figuring most people went to their community parades and such. But that was 10-15 years ago, guess that's not the case anymore!
Does anyone think the 5th might be just as bad? I'm wondering since it's between the holiday and the weekend, many people will be taking that day off.

How are the lines overall on the 4th?
