July 3rd or part of day on July 5th?

Hi,

I grew up in Ohio just 20 minutes from Cedar Point - I've probably been there 100 times in my life. Always fun! Usually I try to go in early June but this year it didn't work. Getting to Ohio from Washington state is kinda hard to do.

I'm going to be visiting in a week or so. My schedule allows either:

1) an all day visit on July 3rd. It's a Sunday! Best day to go according to the general guidelines. But the park is open to 1:00 am. Warning Will Robinson!

2) or I can go on July 5th but I'd have to leave at about 3:30 in the afternoon. I could get there at park opening.

I'm taking my 12 year old boy - hopefully we'll get on all the big rides this year. Never been on Maverick or Top Thrill.

Anyone want to hazard a guess to the best strategy?

Is there a 2 day (not consecutive) pass available?

Maybe go for part of Sunday (the morning) then bail and come back on tuesday morning....

Thanks!

Okay, found out there are 2 day passes available through CP for $79.

Wonder if AAA has a 2 day rate or whether I would just buy tickets for both days?

Wow - I'm having fun racking up my number of posts - and proving I'm sort of stupid in the process.

In the online specials area of CP's web site we could get tickets for $64/pp without soak city.

So I'm back to the question of just how bad 7/3 will be.....

The 3rd is the night they're doing fireworks, so I imagine it will be quite busy. However, if you don't mind staying all the way until closing time, I've found in the past the place really clears out after the fireworks display (10 PM). Not sure about the 5th, but it'll almost definitely be less crowded than the 3rd. If you can do both days, I'd recommend it if you want to hit everything.
