July 21-26: Everyday is Funday

From July 21-26 my family made our annual trip to Cedar Point and, as always, we had a great time. On Monday we arrived by way of the Chausee and checked into Hotel Breakers.

My mom and dad both worked there in 1975 and it’s a tradition to stay there every year. Our room in the Bon-Air section had a great view of the Magnum and Top Thrill Dragster. We’ve stayed in Breakers Tower and Breakers East before, but the Bon-Air section is the best place to stay, in my opinion, because it is close to the park and is less expensive.

We purchased season passes the first day there and spent time in the park every day. On Tuesday we rode the first Millennium train of the day. There is nothing like starting your day with a mad dash to one of the best coasters in the world! We also rode Raptor in the front seat for the first time, which I thought made the flight even better.

Another great experience was riding the “ejector” seat on Magnum for the first time. It was a little painful. We also rode Demon Drop and Power Tower a few times, which I think are the scariest rides in the park.

On Wednesday three of our cousins came from Toledo to join us in the park. We rode coasters most of the day. They were disappointed that they didn’t get to ride Dragster, but we had a lot of fun anyway. They left at 10:30 and around 11 Dragster opened so my brother, sister and I got in line and got on the ride in less than 30 minutes. TTD definitely surpassed all of my expectations. The launch and the view from the top are awesome. What a great addition to the park!

On Thursday we decided to spend most of the day at Soak City and then we went on the 8:30 Harbour Belle cruise. I loved being able to see the rides and hotels lit up at night from the Harbour Belle. This was definitely well worth the $6.95 ticket price.

On Friday we got another ride on TTD in the morning. The wait was only about an hour. That evening my parents went in the park for the first time in several years. They were surprised by how much the park has changed and they were really impressed by the size and speed of Dragster. However, they refused to ride anything bigger than the Mine Ride. That night we also got to see the second floor of the Coliseum. The lights were on so we decided to take a look around. The ballroom is really beautiful and it was great to be able to see something that was such an important part of Cedar Point’s past.

Sadly, we had to leave on Saturday, but before we did, we got morning rides on Millennium and Raptor. Nothing beats a July trip to Cedar Point, and we are already looking forward to next year’s trip!
