July 2 busy, but fun

I left Windsor yesterday morning around 10 with a car full. We went to the tunnel and was surprised to find it was backed up about 3/4 of the way. So after a long delay at the tunnel, and a nice paced drive they, we got into the park around 1. Driving in I knew it would be a busy day because the parking lot was more full than I had ever seen it. I went around and parked in the Soak City lot as I usually do.

We got into the park and went to Magnum first. The sign said 45 minutes, but we waited about half an hour. 2/5 of us had never been on a roller coaster before. After riding Magnum they were very happy. Next we headed to Gemini which whose sign also said 45 minutes, but we waited only a bit over 20. Myself and 2 friends rode blue and won by a landslide.

After that we headed to a very full Frontier Town only to see a line protruding from Maverick’s queue to back by the Round Up. We got in line anyway because we were already back there. The line didn’t move as quick as I thought it would, but it wasn’t bad. I really like the nice shaded queue. In all we waited about an hour and a half. Everyone loved it. We decided that we would ride Millennium then go into town for dinner. The sign said 2 hours. This was the first time since 2003 that I had seen a DJ in the booth, it really made the line go quicker. We requested to hear some Journey, but by the time they played it we were on the ramp near the station and could barely hear it, oh well. We waited about an hour and a half.

After Millennium it was around 5:30 and we headed to the car. We chose to eat at Cracker Barrel and probably won't choose it again. The food just wasn’t good. Live and learn I guess. We got back to the park around 7 and parked in the main lot. We went in and took Sky Ride back and went to Dragster, which had just done down for mechanical reasons so 3 of us rode Power Tower Turbo Drop while the other two sat it out. We only waited about 10 minutes.

After that we saw Dragster was back up but decided to go to Raptor instead. The sign said an hour and a half, but we only waited about an hour. Everyone loved it. It was around 9:15 so three of us headed to Dragster while the other two played games. The sign said an hour and a half and we got in line. The line moved well and she ran perfectly. While we were in line we could see the fireworks from Hot Summer Lights. It was my first night Dragster ride and all three of us loved it. We got off and met up with our friends and headed back to the car. Along the way we played a few games on the Main Midway and I spent $8 and won nothing. That rotating steel wire game with the ring is tricky and addicting. I was closer every time, but by the fourth try I had lost my nerve. After that we got to the car, took the Chausee and headed home.

I was really worried about the park being busy, but it wasn’t bad. It was the busiest I had ever seen the park. We all had a great time and the waiting in lines went by quick because the friends I went with were awesome. Another great trip to the Point.

Sounds like a fun time!

Are days in July always this busy? I am going on the 16th & 17th which is why I was wondering. I was there in June and lines for Millennium, Dragster, & Maverick were about 30 minutes, 45 minutes, & an hour, respectively...

It's hard to say. Between the beautiful day yesterday, it being a Canadian holiday, and Independence day being tomorrow, any of those could result in crowd increase. Since you'll be there for two day's you shouldn't have a problem riding.

Is it true that Usher was at the park on July 1st?

I don't know, I was there the second.

Who is Usher??

Usher's a famous singer. I'm surprised you never heard of him.

Why would Usher even be at CP?

I was told by a friend that they saw him there.

I'm thinking that the park was busier the last few days than it will be the rest of July, simply because of the holidays. It would be easy for people to take the time off since many people have Wednesday off anyway. Why not take a few extra days off and make a really long weekend? Not to mention good weather, extra activities at the Point, like the Cavs people and the Dragster people being there. As long as you had fun, that's what counts! I'm guessing the 4th was pretty busy because of the fireworks, but then again that crowd may not have come until evening, so, we'll see....

I was thinking the same thing too ATJazz about the people taking days off and making it a long weekend. Even though we only rode 8/69 rides, we still had a great time. Had we arrived at 9 or 10 rather than 1 we could have rode more, but then we may have been too tired to stay all the way till close. Either way, I'd rather be at Cedar Point than work.

My family and I always go for the 4th of July (usually like the 3rd, 4th, 5th depending on the days of the week). Last year it was not busy at all. This year the park seemed much busier than usual. Most of the time when we go there is never a line for the Gemini and the Magnum is maybe 20-30 minutes during the day but theres usually no real line during the evening. I have no idea why it was so much busier this yr. I think you'll be fine for the rest of July.

We drove down from Illinois on Sunday, and then Monday went to the park.It was just too much for us.Long lines everywhere, even in the men's room.We had planned to stay another day,but after the experience on Monday decided to just go home.It was probably the worst time we had ever had at CP.The bathrooms were dirty, very unusual, the food was more expensive and everywhere we went were long lines.Maybe we'll try again in August,or just stay home for a change.

BTW,what are your thoughts on the prices at the Midway buffet? almost $14 seemed a bit excessive to me.Coincidently, there were no lines there.Hmmm...I wonder if the price had something to do with that.

Crowds on the Fourth weren't bad at all. When we got there around 7:30 p.m., there were several empty rows at the back of the parking lot, even though the first 10 rows or so were blocked off for the fireworks. It took us about 10 minutes to get out of the main lot and about 30 minutes to travel the length of the Chausee (partially due to several parties that were occurring there).

The park was so unbusy for the 4th, that the employee parking ban was actually lifted around 10:30am.

Wow. Sounds like the 4th wasn't very crowded. haha

But was the weather very good? I know it wasn't elsewhere in Ohio.

Thrills Around the Corner!

It was overcast all morning, and rained for about 20 minutes around 11am. Then it cleared up, and remained sunny and clear the rest of the day.

We always hit the MM in the afternoon (around 2:00) for lunch prices. It's a little cheaper, but yea it's high. Overall though, the price includes your drink & dessert, so it's a little cheaper than you'd pay getting everything separate t/o the park. The last time we ate there though the food was not very good. Not that it's quality has ever been that high to begin with.

I expect amusement park food prices to be high, but I still think $14 plus tax is a bit much. You said lunch was less. What time does lunch end, and how much was it? Thanks for your reply.
