July 16-Good Day

So, our original plan was to go on the 4th of July, but my wife's sister's anniversary was July 16th and they wanted to visit Cedar Point that day. Their family aren't coaster fanatics, but my brother-in-law likes some of the larger coasters, up to Magnum, and has no one to ride with him. So we switched our 4th visit to the 16th.

Got there around 9:30, didn't use our Joe Cool, waited until 10:00 and headed to Max-Air, Wicked Twister, while the little ones and the wives hit Troika.

It was cloudy, cool, and looked like at any moment that rain was going to fall. Not a drop of rain all day. Cloudy and cool weather was pretty good.

The family split up a lot all day, which really was all we could do if everyone wanted to ride what they wanted. Thank you for cell phones, so we could find out where everyone was at after riding different rides.

My daughter pushed herself onto Mantis this year, probably because she rode Dominator at GL, she still won't get on Millenium or Dragster. We are getting close though. (she's 17 now)

We saw the Ice Show and the Firewater show, both of which seemed better than last year.

And I have to mention that the workers, especially on Witches Wheel and Maverick made my day a little better because of their friendly attitudes. Also, great work to the Raptor Maintenance Person who got Raptor up and running in 15 minutes after a breakdown. The wait was around 40 minutes, but with the breakdown, and everyone leaving the line, we only had a 30 minute wait, including the 15 minute maintenance downtime.

Onto Maverick. . . This was my second ride of the year. My first ride was memorial day I was one of the first 3000 riders that day, but before I left to CP on memorial day I twisted my back, could barely walk, water in my eyes, drove to CP anyway in the fog just to ride Maverick that day. And with a sore back it is hard to judge a ride. So today my back was fine, I have been reading everyones post about the line speed, you guys were right on. The wait said 1 and a half hours, which we were willing to wait no problem, my brother in-law really wanted to ride Maverick, they only go to Cedar Point once every two years, they are from Indiana. We got on Maverick on 1 hour 10 minutes, third row back, the employee at the station was telling people where go, so we had to sit in the third row, we wanted the back, oh well. Down the first hill at the bottom, a lot of pressure on my back, so I shifted my position and the rest of the ride was very comfortable. The restraints where slightly forcing my head sideways at the quick turns, I didn't hold on throughout the whole ride, but tolerable pressure, not a big deal. Into the tunnel, we slowed but didn't stop, and off we went, I did not predict the proper lean time at the end of the tunnel and the restraints slammed my head sideways, my fault. The rest of the ride smooth, and transitions were wonderful.

Now one Maverick Problem... I am a larger fellow....

There is a screw on the center of the restraint holding the seatbelt on. It positions itself at the bottom of my rib cage right in the center of my chest. There is a Lock Nut on that side of the restraint and it kept scratching my chest all the way through the ride, they really need to turn that screw around so the smooth part of the bolt in on the chest side of the restraint. I mentioned the problem to the Photo booth operator, who was really interested in the situations, he asked me the exact car I was in, and what row I was sitting in, Do they have to report complaints? If they do, great Job Cedar Point...

Overall with 9 people in a group wanting to do 9 different things at the same time, our trip turned out pretty good. We left after the Firewater show and got home around 12:15am, I got up at 6:00am for work today.

Thanks for reading.

GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.

PB reader,

The last time I rode Maverick, I had my 3 kids with me who hadn't had a chance to ride it yet. I was going to ride with one of them, and we asked the girl if we could have the back (best seat, IMO) and she said yes.

So I think sometimes, you can ask for a specific seat and they will try to accomodate you.

We try to accomodate everyone as best as possible, however there are times when that is nearly impossible (i.e. when we need to quickly fill a couple of empty rows.) by all means however, if you want to sit somewhere ask us and we will try our best to accomodate you.
