Jobs for 16 year old

I am currently 16 and live in NY, and am wondering what jobs are available for a 16 year old at Cedar Point. I would have a place to stay and be able to drive alone at any hour. Thanks.

At 16 years old you can only work in merch, games, foods or sweeps as far as I know.

Sixteen year olds can also work housekeeping in the hotel and on the grounds crew at Lighthouse Point.

I was in your exact same boat a couple of years ago. I ended up waiting until I was 18 to even apply, partly because I was most interested in rides. I would have been able to apply for Foods, Games, Retail, Admissions, Park Services (restricted duties), Office Staff, etc.

I think your biggest hurdle will be finding a bed in Ohio. You need to be at least 18 to stay in CP housing and most apartments. Private apartments will most likely require established credit and proof of income before you can sign a lease. All the minors that I met at Cedar Point all reside in the Sandusky/ Erie county area.

Also be careful with your driving permits and junior licenses. As a NYS resident myself, I went through the permit process. Ohio does not play by the same rules as NY and you may find that they will not grant you the same privileges. When I was 17, I got my NYS DJ License. As you know, this gives the ability to drive solo in NY during daylight hours. Other states may still require an adult with you at all times. I know PA does and Ontario bans you on the 400/QEW highways. Idk exactly what Ohio needs.

Thanks, the only issue now is driving. I will have a Junior NYS license which only has three restrictions. My family member owns a beachfront condo 20 minutes away and is gone to Florida all summer, so I would have a top floor million dollar condo to myself :) As long as I would be able to drive in Ohio, I am probably going to take a job there this summer in foods or in the resorts.

You won't be able to be a ride operator but you can work as live entertainment, sweeps, foods, games, or merch.

Out of curiosity, are these restrictions enforced out-of-state?

As far as driving or the job availability? As far as job assignment, pretty much yes, the chief difference is that CP is the only park in the chain that has employee housing. The age restriction is mostly from a liability standpoint, and in some instances state regulations.

I was not aware of that. When was the facilities added? I know that they didn't have it when they were acquired.

From the Annual Report: "During the operating season, the Partnership employs in aggregate approximately 42,100 seasonal and part-time employees, many of whom are high school and college students. Approximately 4,300 of Cedar Point's seasonal employees, 250 of Valleyfair's seasonal employees, and 300 of Kings Dominion's seasonal employees live in dormitories owned by the Partnership."

It doesn't seem to specify when, however, the dormitories are referenced as early as the 2009 Annual Report, which is the oldest one on the IR website.

Sounds about the time when they were having issues getting enough employees from the local market.

I think Valleyfair built their dorms in the mid 90's.
