It's time for a game of newbie questions

Alright.. I've looked through a good bit of the archives of this here lounge and have found quite a bit of good info... but there are a few things I didn't get any clear answers on... here goes:

1. What jobs completely suck? (as this is a matter of opinion, offer some support for your claims here)

2. How does getting paid before the season starts work? How much work can you get during that time?

3. I've heard there's an extra deduction from your check for A/C... how much is that roughly?

4. If you're able to start working earlier, will this influence the possibility of you getting the job you want?

5. Since I'm getting into this somewhat late in the game (at least this is the impression that I'm getting), am I already screwed when it comes to getting a position I want? (like ride host for instance, though I have a couple others of interest)

1. Since I've only worked in rides, I can't really say which jobs suck. But I can say that all jobs at Cedar Point have the same thing in common. Repetition. Make sure you can handle that before you think about accepting a job anywhere. Go into the job with a good attitude and don't let the first two weeks or so get you down because once you get the hang of things, and start to make some friends, you'll understand why we all get so Cedar Point-homesick.

2. A lot of people process in mid-April. Pay rates are the same however hours are not quite what you would expect in July. You'd basically just be doing odd jobs where ever and whenever needed, cleaning, etc.

3. The housing in commons already comes with A/C, there's no "extra" price besides what you pay weekly. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure how much it would cost you to put an A/C in Bayside or on point housing, but I know that it brings the amount up to what you would pay (if not more) than to just live in Commons. If you're worried about A/C, make sure you try to get in the Commons dorms, because it's included with the weekly cost and the A/C will not help that much in any of the other buildings.

4. Not necessarily, I think they look more towards how long you can stay. If you get there in June but can stay until the end then there's a good chance you'll get what you want. However, being able to start early will definitely play a role in getting the job you want. I started May 26th last summer.

5. Not at all, last year I didn't even apply until February, and didn't get hired until March. So don't worry about it. They need a lot of ride hosts, and the job position is not quite as popular as you'd think it would be. I don't know anyone who wanted to be in rides, and didn't get it.

CoasterMonkey, Brent answered all the questions great but I'll just give my two cents on #4 and 5. Unless your start date is sometime in say July, you will probably get the job that you want. In late June, that is when the internationals come and they just suck up all the jobs at that point. I do remember some emp. comming to magnum late (June or so) and not having any problems. The managers try there hardest to put you in the department that you want to work in. If you can do weekends in the beginning and end of the season that could also help too. Also if there is a specific location that you want to work in rides, make sure that you express this during your interview. Otherwise your just going to be placed where ever. If you have any other questions, feel free to get in contact.

There was a young lady who came in August 4th last year and got ride host on Power Tower.

Something I noticed a couple years ago.. if you make less money one week because you worked fewer hours, they don't take as much out for housing.

Though it will be less than the summer, what would you say is the range of hours I can expect in April? Like 30-40 or 10-20?

It depends on your dept. for how many hrs to expect..For most you work monday thru fri from 8am to 4pm and wkend off..

Snake River 99'00'

The amount of housing that is taken out is directly related to the amount of hours you work for a week. Free after Labor Day.
