Well, c'mon, exit - its obvious to everyone that you have no relevant knowledge, never contribute to the forum in a positive way, and have no sense of humor whatsoever.
Brandon
Lately dj you haven't been any better then Exit. I remember when you first came here, you were pretty nice and easy to get along with. But now you seem to be a grump all the time.
Exit on the other hand is always a grump. But he is quite funny at times. :)

I'm selectively polite.
If I seem like (more of) a grump lately, its probably because of the ratio of good/relevant/interesting discussion to the crappy/nonsenical/flabbergastingly-ridiculous discussion.
Sorry if I've been a grump toward you - its nothing personal.
See? That ^ was nice, eh? Eh?
Brandon
Why yes it was. :)
Although you haven't ever been a grump to me. I was just talking in general.

Dj was an uppity pain in my backside when he got here. But unlike some other noobs who whine about it, he stuck with being a pain in my backside and eventually became a part of the site. Of course he's got some good insight too.

Well, I think most of my grumpish behavior is directed toward posts/concepts and such that are either ridiculous or without merit. The overwhelming majority of the people here have my utmost respect, and I try to show that.
Of course, lately (with P2007), my posting frequency has dropped, and the posts I do make are more often confrontational or rudely sarcastic than normal, I imagine. That could be why I've come across as grumpier as of late.

How very true. Except for the last part. ;)

...and you, sir, get the "Quote of the Day Award!"
That seriously gave me a chuckle.
And by the way, your logic (there's that word again!) totally makes sense. It's not just a problem here, of course...any community is going to have its mature people, its annoying newbies who eventually grow up, and those who always stay annoying and decide to never follow rules. Those people, of course, sour the attitude of the whole community. *** Edited 8/1/2006 6:04:01 PM UTC by kirk06***

I'm still around, don't go up to CP as often but I'm there at times. With the boards I read them, laugh at the new posts, wish the newbies would use the search feature and carry on. Other then that haven't we beat most topics to death...cough* Mean steak needs to go, DT sucks, The new coaster in lake erie per the lemon chill guy, (speaking of that where is DBCahill?). Kinzels shoe size on DT, and one time on magnum, where is Mr. Skyward, banshee er mantis needs to be a floorless, people need to ride mantis right, when does hot summer nights start.

I came to this site when Millennium Force was announced. I still remember the first time that there was a thread that I started that was deleted because of stupidity on my part. I remember being angry, too. I wanted to start a post to ask why it got deleted, but then realized it wasn't that big of a deal. I quickly learned the way things work around here, and I have most definitely learned that things are better because of the way they are.
It's just like anything else. Remember when you were a freshman in college (or high school) and you made all those stupid decisions and mistakes? Then, when you were a senior, and you complained about how stupid the freshmen were? Welcome back to high school, everybody. :)

I agree... I've been here since 1999 during MF Construction. I find I still enjoy posting when there is something new or relevant to say, or when I just feel the need to chime in, but so many topics have been discussed over and over again, and sometimes it's best to just sit back and watch for anything new to talk about.
I will also agree with the statement that people have gotten much more rude on this forum. I don't know if its because of the higher number of dumb posts, or if the gas prices and heat are just starting to get to people. In the early days, Jeff provided the majority of the witty, well-placed putdowns.... I've even recieved a few of them myself... but they were understandable, and pretty dang funny. But now it seems that many have been infected with the "Jeff Virus"... However, it has mutated and multiplied into something much much worse.
The Jeff Virus can be equated with what the kids call the "Simon Cowell" syndrome. Victims are easily identified by their incessant need to look for every little nitpicky reason to pick on Newbies, Gramatically Challenged posters, and anyone else whose user name begins with the letters A-Z. Their posts are often misbalanced with 25% intellectual content, 70% put-downs, and 5% Humorous Wit....
I don't know which are worse... The large influx of "Broken Record Newbies" or the previously discussed criticizers... but together they form a pandemic that makes the Bird Flu look like a common cold...
I know this is a cycle... and I was a newbie once myself. But even Walt has said that P2007 has brought more new members to the site than ever before, and the added population is clear by looking at every corner of this forum.
I will stick around, because GTTP / VM / PointBuzz is hands down the best CP site/forum on the net... But sometimes it does get a bit overwhelming...
I'm done now...
(yes... there is sarcasm in this post, but also some honest thoughts... and perhaps a spelling error...)

I see it as a self-cleansing cycle. If some newbies were allowed to just run rampant with no check, this board would quickly spiral out of control. The (seemingly) rude statements can, in some situations, weed out those not strong willed enough to put up with it. If someones not willing to put up with some initial crap (especially when they deserve it) whats to stop it from getting worse? If they don't learn, oh well, don't let the door hit ya. If they do, then they are a better poster for it.
I don't think I went through that though. Mostly because I didn't start off posting like I thought I was owed respect. I posted like I needed to earn that respect and acceptance.
Asking for new posters to be respectful and at least make an attempt at searching (even if the function is turned off right now) and using spell check and grammar seems to be out of line with some noobs who have grown up in the IM generation. Any time you point out that a post (especially the TRs) with bad spelling and grammar are hard to read, you get blasted for it. But posting like that is disrespectful to those who have been here a long time and take the time to proof-read their posts.
There is a lot of information on this board. And even more if people take the time to ask the right questions in the right way.
Goodbye MrScott
John
