Items sitting outside Dragster's station?

I was looking at the web cam and saw some items stored for the winter and can't seem to tell what they are. It looks like fold-up chairs, but that does not make any sense. Anyone have ideas? Also, are all the trains kept outside during the winter?

To me those look like the cars off the Super Himalaya.

Once the dragster trains are stripped down and put back together (and hopefully have some themed parts add to them again) yes, they will be kept outside during the winter.

Seems to me that they would last longer if kept inside a building, out of the elements.

Why don't they do this? It would be less expensive than replacing weather worn cars/trains, I would think.

And what building are they going to put them in?

Seriously, the trains are designed to sit outside except when they bring them in to rebuild them. Although I suppose they could put a temporary structure over the space between the fence and The Wall We All Hate to more-or-less enclose the Dragster storage track area....

The stuff on the midway is, in fact, Himalaya tubs. And when I looked at the web cam, I noticed that it was nicely festive for Halloween with the giant spider attacking the coaster... :)

All the coaster trains get taken off every winter and are stored in numerous maintenance sheds. If you look around, you can see pictures of them putting Millennium Force trains back on the track in the spring, as well as the pulley system they use on Mantis to take each car off. It would be total nonsense to leave the trains out each winter.

In addition to maintenace sheds, CP has a lot on unused indoor area. The theaters come to mind. What about off Point storage areas? It just seems odd to me that they would leave these things sitting out in the elements in the middle of Lake Erie. Wrapped in plastic or not.

Most trains ARE stored outside during the winter unless they are being worked on.. Certain trains are put in certain parking lots each season.

The theaters are not nearly large enough to move trains in and out of.. not to mention if you remember, most buildings at CP don't have heat. Anyone who has been in the Garter at the end of a season will remember this..

RGR,

How do they protect the metal parts from rust? Why would the buildings not having heat matter, if they store them outside now anyway?

The trains sit outside in the rain all summer.... then they're wrapped in plastic and stored all winter... Seems to me that maybe they were designed to be outside? ;)

MrScott: my guess is that most of the parts are aluminum/stainless steel/ or painted to avoid most of the rust... and the parts that aren't are either touched up or replaced in the spring. I would just think its a cost they plan for each year that isn't too high to warrant building a building to store the trains it

But then again I could be wrong withe very point I brought up in this - its just an educated guess.

The trains are stored outside until Maintenance can have the chance to re-furb them. Then, after they are done, they are sent out to areas which have already been designated so when testing time comes around, it's easier for the cranes to get to the loading track.

Someone mentioned a question about storage areas?

The picnic shelters are boared up every offseason, and heaters are brought in, trains are re-furbished there, and other places...

I wasn't sure about the TTD trains, but I do remember, many years ago, a commercial about getting to the Point before winter hits, it showed Gemini in the summer, and than in the winter, with the trains sitting in the midway next to the fence outside Gemini.

The cars spend all thier time outside except for whatever time the spend rebuilding each one. I got to take a tour of the park in early April last year, and most of the cars were sitting on the midways by their respective rides. Some coasters already had the trains back on the transfers.

I do remember Mantis trains in the Breaker's parking lot, along with some wheel-less, lap bar-less Magnum trains.

On Jeffrey Spartan's website there was some off-season pics and the Raptor and Mantis cars were in the breaker's lot with I believe Corkscrew trains also.

Snow doesn't cause corrosion, as long as it stays frozen. And when it melts, it is no different than a summer rain shower. The reason automobiles suffer isn't from the snow, it's from the road salt, which is not a problem at CP.

Yeah, Gomez is right. There are TTD trains sitting outside the station. But, I can still see another train on the transfer track.
