Yes, it's a dumb choice. What are you going to do the other eight months out of the year?

I've said it a hundred times to people I know... Get college done and over with. 90% of people who take breaks never go back to school. Don't waste your time.

There's no reason why you can't go to college and work at CP at the same time. Like Jeff said, what about the other 8 months? The first two years of college you take a lot of general courses anyway (IE English 101, etc), and you certainly don't need coaster experience for that. By the time you'd get to engineering courses, you'd have the experience. CP is a GREAT college summer job, and they work VERY well with college students to arrange your working dates - don't put it off!

I agree. Cedar Point is an excellent summer job for the line of work you want to be doing; however, college is more important to acheive your goal.
Agree! Go to school! If possible, work at CP during the summers if you can! Don't put off going to school.
Don't expect to fall back on your CAD classes either. I took 5 years worth of Drafting/CAD in high school (2 classes one year) yet it still tough to find a job with the big boys.

I have a degree from my vocational school saying I am trained in AutoCAD 98. Also I have a special award for being the most outstanding student in industrial arts out of a class of 800 ( 5 credits, all A's :)). Still most employers don't take this into much consideration, being from a high school and all. They value a degree from a ITT tech or a college more. Saying I got A's in Drafting in High School wont cut it.

Drafting experience is great though and it should help you get ahead. It's a job that is always in demand, just look in the paper!. Even if you don't get into coaster designing, its a good career to fall back on.

One more tip if you want to get into Coasters. Don't take architectural drafting. It has nothing to do with coasters I found out. try and go along the lines of Mechanical or Engineering styles of drafting.

Joe (who will most likely fall back on Drafting, not Coaster designing :( )
Well Im going To a Career Place Called Millstream In Findlay where you earn college credits in high school. It is a very hard cad class which also goes to Competitions throughout state.Ive taken 5 cad classes and Blueprint reading as well as Industrial career exploration.

A great thing you can do (which I did in high school) is the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options program. If you have a 3.5 GPA in high school, the state of Ohio is required by law to pay for you to attend college while you're still in high school. So I had half a day of high school and then college courses. I managed to get enough hours (with some more hours from AP credit) that I am now a sophomore, having entered college in the fall. And the best thing is...you don't pay a dime! Not even textbooks! Definitely go for it if you're eligible.

And yes--consider CP as a summer job!

Take Jeff's advice on this...I took it, and am very happy with my decision, and how much I will benefit from it in a few more years. Yeah, I had to make some huge sacrifices to go back to college (sell fancy sports car...), but ultimately getting a college degree will benefit you much more in the big picture.
