I'll apologize in advance: I'm a band nerd.
I absolutely love the music in the intro video to the new coaster on the website. It is the perfect theme music. Does anybody know if Cedar Point composes their own music somehow for the animations, or do they just find it somewhere and use it? It would be so cool to find that song. (not to mention, try playing it in a concert band) Has anybody ever heard of it?
Also, kudos to the animation department. All of the videos are awesome. Along with the web designers--the website is full of stuff.
Six Flags stuck it to the south: No more SFAW. No more SFNO.
I agree! The music is great, and so are the videos.

Yeah, I mentioned in another thread that I thought it'd be awesome to have in the station (hint, hint). :)

Ok, as another "band geek," orchestras are not hired to compose music. They play it. :) Though I am impressed that you knew it was an orchestra and not a band. ;)
I've never heard this music before, so it is likely that it was composed for this ride (not that I've heard every piece of Western themed music ever written). The orchestra that was hired to perform it is quite good, and I'm impressed with the chops of the brass--particularly the horns and 1st trumpet! The strings and woodwinds are also very good. I'd bet that this is a studio orchestra in Los Angeles that is playing this, but that's just a guess.
I would say that it is very likely for the music to be used in the station. I timed the music, and it's about 55 seconds. Since they plan to launch a train every 36 seconds, the length of the tune is just about right. Even if they don't hit the interval right on, the extra 20 or so seconds gives them some leeway and the music should be able to run on an almost continuous loop. The piece is also stays around one key throughout, so it wouldn't be difficult to "cut" parts out to make it fit into a 30 second commercial. For instance, the drum opening could be shortened, and there's a section that is essentially repeating the section just before it (it changes at the end, though), so they could cut out the first time (about 8 bars in 4/4 time) and just go right to the 2nd time. I also believe there could be more to this theme than what we've heard. After the opening horn fanfare, the music gets significantly faster at the main theme. I wonder if there's more of a buildup (i.e accelerando ) into that main theme, and the intro was cut just to be the right length to synch with what they wanted for the intro to the ride on the website.
I also would expect an auto-spiel with this ride. Something along the lines of "Howdy Y'all!" Welcome to the most rip-roarin, rootin'-tootin, sidewindin' coaster ever built, Maverick!" and the like.
Just my $.02 as a band nerd. :) * *** Edited 9/8/2006 1:46:28 AM UTC by Jeff Young***

Yes, remember the old laser show pre-show music... :)

Yes, any of those would be applicable as well.
Except for the reach for the sky....it isn't tall enough to do that. :)
And I know I won't be able to resist going through the turnaround on the pond without thinkin "Somebody's poisoned the water-hole!"
Especially if someone throws up right at that moment of the ride. ;) *** Edited 9/8/2006 1:44:56 AM UTC by Jeff Young***
